Montauk Airport is a privately owned, public use airport located three nautical miles (6 km) northeast of the central business district of Montauk, in Suffolk County, New York, United States. It is included in the National Plan of Integrated Airport Systems for 2011–2015, which categorized it as a ''reliever airport''. The airport is located on East Lake Drive between Lake Montauk and Block Island Sound. It is the easternmost airport in New York State. History Montauk Airport was constructed in 1957 to improve access to the East End community, which was being developed as a summer resort. Montauk ( ) is a hamlet and census-designated place (CDP) in the Town of East Hampton in Suffolk County, New York, on the eastern end of the South Shore of Long Island. As of the 2020 United States census, the CDP's population was 4,318. The CDP encompasses an area that stretches approximately from Napeague, New York, to the easternmost tip of New York State at Montauk Point Light. The hamlet encompasses a small area about halfway between the two points. The Naval Air Transport Service or NATS, was a branch of the United States Navy from 1941 to 1948. At its height during World War II, NATS's totaled four wings of 18 squadrons that operated 540 aircraft with 26,000 personnel assigned. "Memory Motel" is a ballad song from English rock band the Rolling Stones' 1976 album ''Black and Blue''. The song is credited to singer Mick Jagger and guitarist Keith Richards (named Richard at the time). It's one of the few which feature both members sharing lead vocals. The song is more than seven minutes long, one of the longest by the Rolling Stones. Jagger began writing the song before beginning the Stones' Tour of the Americas '75 while staying with Richards at Andy Warhol's house in Montauk, New York and finished it while on tour.
