The Montana Republican Party (MTGOP) is the affiliate of the Republican Party (United States), Republican Party in Montana. It is headquartered in Helena, Montana, Helena. The party is chaired by Don Kaltschmidt. The national committeeman is currently unknown and the national committeewoman is Debra Lamm. The party is a private corporation organized of political organizations, including political action, advocacy, and interest groups. Montana Legislature
The Montana State Legislature is the state legislature of the U.S. state of Montana. It is composed of the 100-member Montana House of Representatives and the 50-member Montana Senate. The Montana Constitution dictates that the legislature meet in regular session for no longer than 90 days in each odd-numbered year. The primary work of the legislature is to pass a balanced biennial budget which must then be approved by the governor. If the governor vetoes a bill, the legislature may override the veto by a two-thirds vote. Since the beginning of statehood for Montana, the Legislature has been split along party lines fairly consistently and evenly. Elsie Arntzen (born May 7, 1956) is an American educator and politician from the U.S. state of Montana who serves as the Superintendent of Public Instruction of the State of Montana. Gregory Richard Gianforte (born April 17, 1961) is an American businessman, politician, software engineer, and writer serving as the 25th governor of Montana since 2021. A member of the Republican Party, Gianforte served as the U.S. representative for Montana's at-large congressional district from 2017 to 2021. Montana's At-large Congressional District
Montana is represented in the United States House of Representatives by one at-large congressional district, among the 435 in the United States Congress. The district was the most populous U.S. congressional district, with just over 1 million constituents. It was also the second-largest by land area, after Alaska's at-large congressional district, and the largest by land area in the contiguous United States. Currently, the district is represented by Republican Matt Rosendale. It had previously been represented by Republican Greg Gianforte, who did not seek re-election in 2020. Instead, he opted to run for Governor of Montana. Starting in the 2022 midterm elections, per the 2020 United States census, Montana regained the congressional seat it lost after the 1990 census. Derek Skees (born 1968) is an American politician serving as a Republican member of the Montana House of Representatives from the 11th district. Skees chairs the House Energy, Technology and Federal Relations Committee.
