Montana Highway 83 (MT 83) is a north–south state highway in Flathead, Lake, and Missoula counties in Montana, United States, that connects Montana Highway 200 (MT 200) in Clearwater (east of Missoula) with Montana Highway 35 (MT 35) on north edge of Bigfork. Route description MT 83 starts at the intersection with MT 200 at Clearwater Junction, about east of Missoula, and runs north-northwesterly, mostly through broad, forested valleys and along scenic lakeshores within the Lolo National Forest, Flathead National Forest and Swan River State Forest, before curving west to its northern terminus at MT 35 about north of Bigfork. The region is sparsely settled, with small communities economically dependent on a mixture of logging and tourism. The largest communities along the route are Seeley Lake, Condon and Swan Lake. Secondary highways first appeared on the state highway map in 1960, even though the secondary system was established in 1942. Swan Lake is a census-designated place and unincorporated community in Lake County, Montana, United States. Its population was 113 as of the 2010 census. Geography The Swan Lake CDP is in northeastern Lake County, on the east shore of the south end of the lake of the same name. The CDP extends east to the Lake County/ Flathead County line, which runs along the crest of the Swan Range. Condon is an unincorporated community and census-designated place in Missoula County, Montana, United States. Located along the Swan River and Montana Highway 83, Condon is situated between the Swan Range to the east and the Mission Mountains to the west, providing ready access to the Bob Marshall Wilderness and Mission Mountains Wilderness, respectively. Seeley Lake is a census-designated place (CDP) in Missoula County, Montana, United States. It is part of the 'Missoula, Montana Metropolitan Statistical Area'. The town sits beside the 1,031.5 acres lake Seeley Lake. The population was 1,659 at the 2010 census, an increase from its population of 1,436 in 2000.
