Montagu Marks
Montagu Marks (1890–1972) was an Australian artist. He was born in Melbourne in 1890, moved to Perth in 1896 and later studied at the National Gallery School at Melbourne. During World War I he was a pilot in the Canadian Royal Flying Corps (RFC). After the war he was General Manager of London Film Productions. He was posted to Spain in World War II to help Britain's propaganda effort to keep Spain from joining the Axis powers. He married fellow Australian artist Stella Lewis Marks MVO at Chelsea Town Hall in 1911. He was a friend of Sidney Reilly, the 'Ace of Spies', whom he met as a fellow officer in the Canadian RFC. He initiated the connection between Sir Alexander Korda and the Prudential enabling the building of Denham Film Studios. He traveled to Ceylon (Sri Lanka), Australia and New Zealand in 1937/1938 to promote London Films across the Empire and review the possibility of setting up a permanent studio in Australia. Stella Marks
Stella Lewis Marks MVO, RMS, ASMP (November 27, 1887 – November 18, 1985) was born in the City of Melbourne, Australia. She was an artist, active in Australia, the United States of America, and Great Britain. She is best known as a portrait miniaturist, although she also made larger works in oils, charcoal, and pastels. She was a member of the Royal Society of Miniature Painters, Sculptors and Gravers, and the American Society of Miniature Painters. In the early 20th century, she painted a number of well-known personalities, particularly in America, before moving to the UK in 1934. In 1948, she was commissioned to paint a portrait miniature of Queen Elizabeth II, who was then H.R.H. the Princess Elizabeth, by the Duke of Edinburgh, and since then she painted 14 miniatures of members of the British royal family. Chelsea Town Hall is a municipal building in King's Road, Chelsea, London, Chelsea, London. The oldest part is a Grade II* listed building and the later part is Grade II listed building, listed. Sidney George Reilly (; – 5 November 1925)—known as "Ace of Spies"—was a Russian-born adventurer and secret agent employed by Scotland Yard's Special Branch and later by the Foreign Section of the British Secret Service Bureau, the precursor to the modern British Secret Intelligence Service (MI6/SIS). He is alleged to have spied for at least four different great powers, and documentary evidence indicates that he was involved in espionage activities in 1890s London among Russian émigré circles, in Manchuria on the eve of the Russo-Japanese War (1904–05), and in an abortive 1918 ''coup d'état'' against Vladimir Lenin's Bolshevik government in Moscow. Denham Film Studios
Denham Film Studios was a British film production studio operating from 1936 to 1952, founded by Alexander Korda. Notable films made at Denham include ''Brief Encounter'' and David Lean's '' Great Expectations''. From the 1950s to the 1970s the studio became best known for recording film music, including the scores for Alfred Hitchcock's ''Vertigo'', '' Chitty Chitty Bang Bang'', and '' Star Wars''. The studio buildings were demolished in 1981 and the site re-landscaped as a business park; as of 2017 it has been turned over to residential use. Douglas Fairbanks
Douglas Elton Fairbanks Sr. (born Douglas Elton Thomas Ullman; May 23, 1883 – December 12, 1939) was an American actor, screenwriter, director, and producer. He was best known for his swashbuckling roles in silent films including '' The Thief of Bagdad'', ''Robin Hood'', and '' The Mark of Zorro'', but spent the early part of his career making comedies. Fairbanks was a founding member of United Artists. He was also a founding member of The Motion Picture Academy and hosted the 1st Academy Awards in 1929.
