''Monsters, Inc.'' (also known as ''Monsters, Incorporated'') is a media franchise produced by Pixar and owned by the Walt Disney Company. The franchise takes place in a universe parallel to the real world where monsters are the citizens of society and harness the energy of human children to power their cities. The company known as ''Monsters, Inc.'' accomplishes this with portal doors which lead to their bedrooms. Feature films ''Monsters, Inc.'' (2001) ''Monsters, Inc.'' introduces the monster world, where Monstropolis is powered by the screams of human children as monsters enter the human world at night and scare children through their bedroom closets. Peter Hans Docter (born October 9, 1968) is an American filmmaker and animator, who has served as chief creative officer (CCO) of Pixar since 2018. He has directed the company's animated films ''Monsters, Inc.'' (2001), ''Up (2009 film), Up'' (2009), ''Inside Out (2015 film), Inside Out'' (2015), and ''Soul (2020 film), Soul'' (2020). From his nine Academy Awards, Academy Award nominations, he is a record three-time recipient of Academy Award for Best Animated Feature, Best Animated Feature for ''Up'', ''Inside Out'' and ''Soul''.
