Monster Energy Cup (Supercross)
The Monster Energy Cup is an exhibition race hosted by the AMA Supercross Championship that takes place in the Fall. The event started in 2011 and has been held at the Sam Boyd Stadium in Las Vegas every year since. A US $1 million purse is available to any rider who is able to win all three featured races. Format The Monster Energy Cup consists of three 10-lap Main Events for riders of 450cc 4-stroke motorcycles; the same 22 riders compete in all three events. The event uses Olympic-style scoring, so the rider who gets the lowest overall score (a 1+1+1=3 being a perfect score for winning all three Main Events) is declared the winner. The overall winner pockets $100,000 if he fails to win all three Main Events. Amateur and junior divisions also compete at the Monster Energy Cup. AMA Supercross Championship
The AMA Supercross Championship (commercially known as Monster Energy AMA Supercross) is an American motorcycle racing series. Founded by the American Motorcyclist Association (AMA) in 1974, the AMA Supercross Championship races are held from January through early May. Supercross is a variant of motocross which involves off-road motorcycles on a constructed dirt track consisting of steep jumps and obstacles; the tracks are usually constructed inside a sports stadium. The easy accessibility and comfort of these stadium venues helped supercross surpass off-road motocross as a spectator attraction in the United States by the late 1970s. Ken Roczen
Ken Roczen (born 29 April 1994 in Mattstedt, Germany) is a German professional motocross and supercross racer. He competed in the Motocross World Championships from 2009 to 2011 and the AMA Supercross Championships since 2011. He is an MX2 Motocross World Champion, Motocross des Nations winner, 250cc West Supercross champion, 450cc Monster Energy cup winner, and two-time 450cc AMA Motocross champion. Motocross is a form of off-road motorcycle racing held on enclosed off-road circuits. The sport evolved from motorcycle trials competitions held in the United Kingdom. Marvin Musquin (born 30 December 1989 in La Réole, France) is a French professional motocross and supercross racer. He competed in the Motocross World Championships from 2004 to 2010 and, has competed in the AMA Motocross Championships since 2011. Sam Boyd Stadium (formerly the Las Vegas Silver Bowl) is a football stadium in the western United States, located in Whitney, Nevada, an unincorporated community in the Las Vegas Valley. It honors Sam Boyd (1910–1993), a major figure in the hotel and casino industry in Las Vegas. The stadium consisted of an uncovered horseshoe-shaped single-decked bowl, with temporary seating occasionally erected in the open north end zone.
