Monrovia, Alabama
Monrovia, also known as Vaughn Corners or Thompson Mill, is an unincorporated community in Madison County, Alabama, United States. It is bordered on the south by the city of Madison, on the southeast by the city of Huntsville, on the west by Limestone County and on the north by the community of Harvest. History A post office operated under the name Monrovia from 1878 to 1904. Jeff Gin, located on the southwest corner of the intersection of Jeff Road and Nick Davis Road, began operation in 1956. It was started by brothers Erle and Wilburn Douglass. At that time the gin was called Douglass Brothers and was one of 26 gins in Madison County. Along with the gin, Erle had a farming operation with Jack Vandiver called Douglass & Vandiver. Jack Vandiver ended up managing the gin. Madison, Alabama
Madison is a city located primarily in Madison County, near the northern border of the U.S. state of Alabama. Madison extends west into neighboring Limestone County. Huntsville Madison County Public Library
The Huntsville-Madison County Public Library is a public, Carnegie library in Huntsville, Alabama. Founded in 1818, when Alabama was still a part of the Mississippi Territory, it is the oldest continuing library in the state. It was first located in the office of attorney John Nelson Spotswood Jones, in the Boardman Building, which is now a part of Constitution Hall Park. The Library also occupied space in the Green Academy from 1821 until Union soldiers burned the school during the Civil War, and moved to borrowed spaces several times until the Carnegie Library opened in 1916. It was designed by Huntsville architect and preservationist Edgar Lee Love. A new building was constructed to accommodate city and county growth, and opened in 1966. Harvest, Alabama
Harvest is an unincorporated community and census-designated place (CDP) in the northwestern part of Madison County, Alabama, United States, and is included in the Huntsville-Decatur Combined Statistical Area. According to the 2020 U.S. Census, the population of the community is 5,893. History From the late 1800s through the early 1900s, Harvest saw growth and development resulting from the construction and operation of a rail line southward from Fayetteville, Tennessee. The Nashville, Chattanooga & St. Louis (NC&StL) Railway eventually acquired the rail line. In the early-to-mid-1900s, Harvest was centered around the railroad between the communities of Capshaw (the line's terminus) and Toney. Many early settlers in the Harvest area were from the Fayetteville area. Limestone County is a county of the U.S. state of Alabama. As of the 2020 census, the county's population was 103,570. Its county seat is Athens. The county is named after Limestone Creek. Limestone County is included in the Huntsville, AL Metropolitan Statistical Area. History Limestone County was established by the Alabama Territorial legislature on February 6, 1818.
