The Monroe White Sox were a Cotton States League baseball team based in Monroe, Louisiana, United States that existed from 1938 to 1941. They were affiliated with the Dallas Steers in 1938 and the Dallas Rebels in 1939. They played their home games at Casino Park. Under managers Luther Harvel and Doug Taitt, they won the league championship in 1938. They won their next and final league championship in 1940, under Taitt. One notable player is Dave Philley. Luther Raymond Harvel (September 30, 1905 – April 10, 1986), nicknamed "Red", was an American professional baseball, professional baseball player, scout (sports), scout and manager (baseball), manager. Born in Cambria, Illinois, he spent almost 50 years in baseball, his career stretching from 1926 into the 1970s. Douglas John Taitt oco(August 3, 1902 – December 12, 1970) was a right fielder in Major League Baseball and a player/manager in the Minor leagues. David Earl Philley (May 16, 1920 – March 15, 2012) was an outfielder who played in Major League Baseball. A switch hitter who threw right-handed, he debuted on September 6, and played his final game on August 6, . He was born in Paris, Texas. Philley played for eight different teams in a long, 18-season career. He led American League outfielders in assists three different years (, , ) and once in outs (1950). Philley reached the majors in 1941 with the Chicago White Sox. He spent four years as a military policeman during World War II, rejoining the White Sox in 1946 and playing 17 games for them that year.
