Monroe County, Missouri
Monroe County is a county in northeast Missouri. As of the 2020 census, the population was 8,666. Its county seat is Paris. It is the birthplace of Mark Twain. History The county was organized January 6, 1831 and named for James Monroe, the fifth President of the United States. Monroe County was one of several along the Missouri River settled by migrants from the Upper South, especially Kentucky and Tennessee. They brought slaves and slaveholding traditions with them and quickly started cultivating crops similar to those in Middle Tennessee and Kentucky: hemp and tobacco. They also brought characteristic antebellum architecture and culture. The county was at the heart of what was called Little Dixie. James Monroe
James Monroe ( ; April 28, 1758July 4, 1831) was an American statesman, lawyer, diplomat, and Founding Father who served as the fifth president of the United States from 1817 to 1825. A member of the Democratic-Republican Party, Monroe was the last president of the Virginia dynasty and the Republican Generation; his presidency coincided with the Era of Good Feelings, concluding the First Party System era of American politics. Ralls County is a county located in the northeastern portion of the U.S. state of Missouri. As of the 2020 census, the population was 10,355. Its county seat is New London. The county was organized November 16, 1820 and named for Daniel Ralls, Missouri state legislator. Ralls County is part of the Hannibal, MO Micropolitan Statistical Area, which is also included in the Quincy-Hannibal, IL-MO Combined Statistical Area. Missouri Route 151
Route 151 is a highway in the U.S. state of Missouri. Its northern terminus is at Route 15/ Route 156 about south of Edina; its southern terminus is at Route 22/ Route 124 in Centralia. Route 151 was designated in 1949, replacing all or part of several state-lettered routes. In 1955, Route 151 was extended onto an old alignment of Route 22 after Route 22 was realigned west of Centralia. Because of the extension, Route 151 intersects Route 22 twice and the two routes are briefly multiplexed. Missouri Route 107
Route 107 is a highway in northeastern Missouri. Its northern terminus is at U.S. Route 24 southwest of Monroe City; its southern terminus is at Route 154 about nine miles (14 km) south of the northern terminus in Mark Twain State Park. No towns are on the route, but the Mark Twain Birthplace State Historic Site is less than a mile to the east in Florida. The highway crosses Mark Twain Lake twice. Route description Route 107 begins at an intersection with Route 154 south of Mark Twain State Park in Monroe County, where the roadway continues south as Route E. Missouri's 1st congressional district is in the eastern portion of the state. It includes all of St. Louis City and much of northern St. Louis County, including the cities of Maryland Heights, University City, Ferguson and Florissant. The district is easily the most Democratic in Missouri, with a Cook Partisan Voting Index of D+29; the next most Democratic district in the state, the Kansas City-based , has a PVI of D+7. Roughly half of the 1st district's population is African American. Its current representative is Democrat Cori Bush, who was elected in 2020.
