The school Monroe Area High School is a public, four-year comprehensive high school for grades nine through twelve. The present campus was constructed in 2005, and includes a football stadium (the Purple Pit) with a nine-lane rubberized track, baseball and softball fields, tennis courts, and a practice field for football and soccer. The current facility replaced the former campus a few miles away. The old Monroe Area High School building (currently home to the Walton County satellite campus of Athens Technical College), its football stadium, and the Monroe Area football team were used during filming of the TV series ''The Vampire Diaries''. Monroe is a city in Walton County, Georgia, United States, serving as the county seat. It is located both one hour east of Atlanta via US 78 and GA 138 to I-20 and east of Hartsfield–Jackson International Airport and is one of the exurban cities in the Atlanta metropolitan area. Stephon Jakiel Tuitt (born May 23, 1993) is a former American football defensive end who played eight seasons, all with the Pittsburgh Steelers of the National Football League (NFL). Patricia "Trish" Roberts (born June 14, 1955) is an American basketball coach and former player. She was most recently the head coach of the women's basketball team at Agnes Scott College in Decatur, Georgia. Roberts played basketball at Monroe Area High School, North Georgia State College, Emporia State College, and the University of Tennessee. She holds the Tennessee Lady Volunteers basketball records for points scored in a season (929) and in a game (51).
