Monika Hamann
Monika Hamann ( Meyer; born 8 June 1954 in Waren) is a retired East German sprinter who specialized in the 100 and 200m. She represented the sports team SC Neubrandenburg. Biography Meyer competed at the 1971 European Championships, without reaching the final, and won the silver medal in 60 m at the 1975 European Indoor Championships. At the 1978 European Championships she finished fourth in the 100 m and 200 m and won a bronze medal in the 4 x 100 m relay together with Johanna Klier, Carla Bodendorf und Marlies Göhr. Her personal best time was 11.03 seconds, achieved in July 1977 in Dresden. Marlies Göhr
Marlies Göhr (née Oelsner, born 21 March 1958 in Gera, Bezirk Gera) is a former East German track and field athlete, the winner of the 100 metres at the inaugural World Championships in 1983. She ranked in the top 10 of the 100 m world rankings for twelve straight years, ranking first in six of those years. During this time she won many medals as a sprinter at major international championships and set several world records. Biography The 1970s Competing under her maiden name of Oelsner, Marlies finished second in the 100 m in her first major international at the 1975 European Athletics Junior Championships in Athens. The following year, at the 1976 Olympic Games in Montreal, she qualified for the 100 m final, finishing eighth, but went on to win her first Olympic gold medal on East Germany's victorious 4 x 100 m relay team. Annegret Richter (born 13 October 1950) is a German (former West German) athlete and the 1976 Olympic 100 m champion. Biography Born Annegret Irrgang, she won her first international title at the 1971 European Championships, as a part of her country's 4×100 m relay team. The next year, at the 1972 Summer Olympics in Munich, she finished 5th in the 100 m, in front of her home crowd. As she had married hurdler Manfred Richter, she now ran under that name. Bärbel Wöckel
Bärbel Wöckel ( Eckert; born 21 March 1955 in Leipzig) is a retired East German sprinter. She never ran a world record in the individual disciplines. However, she ran several world records as part of relay teams with Doris Maletzki, Renate Stecher and Christina Heinich over 4 x 100 meters, the last time on September 8, 1974, in Rome. At the GDR Championships she took first place in the 4 x 100 meter relay in 1974, 1977, 1978, 1981 to 1984. In 1976 she won third place with the team. During this time she was in the state-organized doping program. Biography Wöckel won four Olympic gold medals between the 200 metres race and 4 × 100 metres relay, two each in the 1976 and 1980 Olympics. In each of those years, Wöckel placed first in the 200 m and 4 × 100 metres relay races. Heike Drechsler
Heike Gabriela Drechsler (; ; born 16 December 1964) is a German former track and field athlete who represented East Germany and later Germany. One of the most successful long jumpers of all-time, she is a former world record holder and ranks third on the all-time list with her legal best of 7.48 metres in 1988. Her marginally wind-assisted jump of 7.63 metres (+2.1) in 1992 at altitude in Sestriere, is still the furthest a woman has ever long jumped. She is the only woman who has won two Olympic gold medals in the long jump, winning in 1992 and 2000. Drechsler also won Olympic medals in the 100 metres and 200 metres in 1988, a silver medal in the 100 metres at the 1987 World Championships, and is a former world record holder in the 200 metres with 21.71 secs in 1986. Katrin Krabbe
Katrin Krabbe (; later Zimmermann, born 22 November 1969) is a German former track and field athlete. She represented East Germany (GDR) at the 1988 Seoul Olympics, and went on to win the 100 metres and 200 metres titles at the 1991 World Championships in Tokyo, representing a unified Germany. Her best times are 10.89 secs for 100m (1988) and 21.95 secs for 200m (1990). Life and career Krabbe was a successful track star, winning the 100 m and 200 m titles in the 1990 European Athletics Championships (held in Split) and the same titles at the 1991 World Championships in Athletics (held in Tokyo, where she beat Gwen Torrence and Merlene Ottey).
