Monica Casiraghi
Monica Casiraghi is an Italian ultrarunner from Missaglia, who won the IAU 100 km World Championships in 2003 after finishing third in 2001 and 2002. She is also the Italian world record holder for a 24-hour race, during which she covered 231 km in the 2010 World Championships in Brive-la-Gaillarde, Brive, France. She ran her first ultramarathon in 1997. In 2006 and 2007 she was European Champion for the 100 km races. She won the silver medal in the European Championship in 2009 and the bronze medal the following year. In 2010, she won the silver medal at the World Championship (100 km). In 2011, she won the Lake Como, Lago di Como ultratrail. IAU 100 Km World Championships
The IAU 100 km World Championships have been held annually since 1987, at different locations, and is organized by the International Association of Ultrarunners (IAU). Due to lack of sponsorship, the 2013 event, planned for Jeju Island, South Korea, was cancelled and the 2014 event, originally due to be held at Daugavpils, Latvia, was held instead in Doha, Qatar. Brive-la-Gaillarde
Brive-la-Gaillarde (; Limousin dialect of oc, Briva la Galharda) is a commune of France. It is a sub-prefecture and the largest city of the Corrèze department. It has around 46,000 inhabitants, while the population of the agglomeration was 75,579 in 2019. Although it is by far the biggest commune in Corrèze, the capital is Tulle. Ultratrail
Trail running is a sport-activity which combines running, and, where there are steep gradients, hiking, that is run "on any unpaved surface". It is similar to both mountain and fell running (also known as hill running). Mountain running may, however, include paved sections. Trail running normally takes place in warm climates, or on good paths, or tracks which are relatively easy to follow, and does not necessarily involve the significant amounts of ascent, or need for navigating skills, normal in fell running. Unlike road running and track running it generally takes place on hiking trails, often in mountainous terrain, where there can be much larger ascents and descents.
