Mongolia competed at the 2016 Summer Olympics in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, from 5 to 21 August 2016. Since the nation made its debut in 1964, Mongolian athletes had appeared in every edition of the Summer Olympic Games, with the exception of the 1984 Summer Olympics in Los Angeles, because of its partial support to the Soviet boycott. The Mongolian National Olympic Committee fielded a team of 43 athletes, 26 men and 17 women, across nine different sports at the Games. It was the nation's largest delegation sent to the Olympics in a non-boycotting edition, tying the record with the number of athletes achieved in Moscow 1980. Mongolian National Olympic Committee ( mn, Монголын Үндэсний олимпийн хороо) is the National Olympic Committee representing Mongolia. History The Mongolian National Olympic Committee was established on February 26, 1956, and sanctioned by the MPRP Central Committee and the Council of Minister of the Mongolian People's Republic, People's Republic of 2-joint 42/37 on April 26, 1956. It has since become an independent non-government organization in order to comply with the International Olympic Committee, International Olympic Games Charter and Rules. Mönkhbatyn Urantsetseg ( mn, Мөнхбатын Уранцэцэг, born 14 March 1990) is a Mongolian sambist and retired judoka who competed in the 48 kg category, and World Champion in both sports. In 2021, she won one of the bronze medals in the women's 48 kg event at the 2020 Summer Olympics in Tokyo, Japan. In 2013, she became the first female world champion in judo from Mongolia. The World Archery Federation (WA, also and formerly known as FITA from the French ''Fédération Internationale de Tir à l'Arc'') is the governing body of the sport of archery. It is based in Lausanne, Switzerland. It is composed of 156 national federations and other archery associations, and is recognised by the International Olympic Committee. History FITA was founded on 4 September 1931 in Lwow, Poland (today Lviv, Ukraine). Judo at the 2016 Summer Olympics in Rio de Janeiro took place from 6 to 12 August at the Carioca Arena 2 inside the Barra Olympic Park in Barra da Tijuca. Around 386 judoka competed in 14 events (seven each for both men and women). Qualification Similar to 2012 format, qualification was based on the world ranking list prepared by International Judo Federation as of May 30, 2016. A total of 252 athletes directly qualified through the ranking with only the top 22 men or top 14 women in each division, ensuring that each NOC was subjected to a limit of one judoka per division.
