Mong La or Mongla ( my, မိုင်းလား ; zh, c=勐拉, p=Měnglā), also known as Little Mong La ( zh, c=小勐拉, p=Xiǎo Měnglā, links=no) to distinguish it from neighbouring Mengla County in China, is the administrative seat of Mong La Township in Shan State, Myanmar. Mong La is opposite , a Chinese border town in Yunnan Province, It is about from the Thai border town of Mae Sai and north-east of Kengtung, Myanmar. Although Mong La is in Myanmar, its electricity, telecommunications, other infrastructure, and trade flows are dependent on China. Mongla ( bn, মংলা) is an upazila of Bagerhat District in the Division of Khulna, Bangladesh. Geography Mongla is located at . It has 27192 households and total area 1461.22 km2. Mongla Upazila borders Rampal Upazila on the north, the Bay of Bengal on the south, Morrelganj and Sarankhola Upazilas on the east and Dacope Upazila on the west. Mongla Export Processing Zone or Mongla EPZ ( bn, মংলা রপ্তানী প্রক্রিয়াকরণ এলাকা) is one of the eight export processing zones under the Bangladesh Export Processing Zone Authority (BEPZA). It is located in Mongla and is adjacent to the Port of Mongla. History Mongla Export Processing Zone was inaugurated by then-Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina on 23 May 1998. The zone has received investment from 29 companies as of 2015, of which 16 have gone into production and rest are under construction. The zone has faced criticism for housing some environmentally harmful industries. Mongla EPZ performance has been below government expectations.
