Mongameli Bobani
Mongameli Bobani (12 July 196811 November 2020) was a South African politician and lawyer. He served as the Executive Mayor of Nelson Mandela Bay Metropolitan Municipality from August 2018 until December 2019. He was previously the Deputy Executive Mayor and the Member of Mayoral Committee for Public Services. Early life Mongameli Bobani was born on 12 July 1968, the son of Vumile Bobani and Nomvuyo Gladys Mawa. Political career Bobani was appointed as proportional representation councillor for the United Democratic Movement in 2002. He was the leader of the United Democratic Movement's caucus in the Nelson Mandela Bay council. Under his leadership, the UDM gained Ward 30 from the African National Congress in a by-election that took place in 2015. The party later lost the ward in the 2016 municipal elections. Andile Lungisa (born 21 December 1979 in Tsomo, Chris Hani District Municipality in the Eastern Cape) is a South African politician and the former deputy president of the African National Congress Youth League (ANCYL). Lungisa is also the former chairperson of the National Youth Development Agency (NYDA) of South Africa as well as the former President of the Pan-African Youth Union (PYU) and councillor of the ANC at the Nelson Mandela Bay Metropolitan Municipality in Port Elizabeth. He was released from prison on 1 December 2020 after serving only two months of his two-year prison sentence for assaulting an opposition councillor during a brawl in a council session. The Hawks are the South African Police Services' Directorate for Priority Crime Investigation (DPCI), which targets organised crime, economic crime, corruption, and other serious crime referred to it by the President or another division of the South African Police Service (SAPS). It was set up as the Scorpions by the Thabo Mbeki administration in 2001 but President Jacob Zuma replaced it with the Hawks as its succession in 2008, with much new associates. Roland Athol Price Trollip (born 12 March 1964) is a South African politician and provincial chairman of ActionSA in the Eastern Cape. He was previously a member of the Democratic Alliance (DA), serving as the Federal Chairperson of the DA from 2015 to 2019 and the Executive Mayor of the Nelson Mandela Bay Metropolitan Municipality, serving from 2016 until he was unseated in a vote of no confidence in 2018. 2016 South African Municipal Elections
The 2016 South African municipal elections were held on 3 August 2016, to elect councils for all district, metropolitan and local municipalities in each of the country's nine provinces. It was the fifth municipal election held in South Africa since the end of apartheid in 1994; municipal elections are held every five years. The ruling African National Congress (ANC) was the largest party overall, earning 53.9% of the total vote. It was followed by the official opposition Democratic Alliance (DA) with 26.9% and the Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF) with 8.2%.
