Mona Fandey
Nur Maznah binti Ismail (1 January 1956 – 2 November 2001), better known as Mona Fandey, was a Malaysian pop singer and murderer. She was executed on 2 November 2001 at the age of 45, after being convicted of the murder of Batu Talam state assemblyman, Mazlan Idris in 1993. After she killed Mazlan Idris, she reportedly went on a shopping spree in Pahang right after withdrawing RM 300,000 (US$116,000 at the time) from a local bank. Trial and execution Mazlan was reported missing on 2 July 1993 after withdrawing RM 300,000 from a bank. After the murder, Mona was reported to have been on a shopping spree where she bought a Mercedes-Benz and had a facelift. It was alleged that the murder occurred between 10:00 PM and midnight on 18 July 1993 when Mona chopped his head off during a shamanistic ritual. Kangar
Kangar ( Northern Malay: ''Kangaq''; Jawi: كڠار) is the state capital and the largest town in Perlis, Malaysia. It has a population of 48,898 and an area of 2,619.4 ha. It is located next to the Thailand border, in the northernmost point of Peninsular Malaysia. It is situated by the Perlis River. ''Dukun'' ( en, "Shaman") is a 2018 Malaysian Malay-language legal horror-thriller film filmed in 2006. The film is loosely based on the true story of the gruesome murder of a Malaysian politician at the time, Datuk Mazlan Idris, by Mona Fandey, a once mildly popular Malaysian singer-turned-witch doctor convicted in 1993. The film was originally slated to be released in 2007 but it was postponed and no official statements was given, due to the adaption of a true high-profile murder case and the controversial nature of the film. Mona Fandey's family herself had voiced their dissatisfaction over the content and basis of the film after announcement of the film release. Amir Muhammad (born 5 December 1972) is a Malaysian writer and independent filmmaker. Life and career He was born on 5 December 1972 in Kuala Lumpur to civil servant Muhammad Abdullah and housewife Asiah Kechik. He was educated at the University of East Anglia with a degree in Law, though he never did his bar but rather worked in his sponsoring company's legal company for nine months. He had also written for Malaysian print media since the age of 14, notably the New Straits Times, where he had worked there as a part timer under several editors.
