Momodou Alieu Bah
Momodou Alieu Bah is a former Gambian senior army officer, who served as Yahya Jammeh's last Minister of the Interior. Bah served as Minister of the Interior from 19 September 2016 to 18 January 2017, when he resigned as a result of the constitutional crisis. Military and political career Bah has been a senior general in the Gambian Army. In 2006, he was arrested for taking part in an alleged coup attempt against President Yahya Jammeh, and sentenced to 25 years. He was pardoned in 2009 following testimony he gave for the prosecution at the trial of Lang Tombong Tamba. He was reinstated into the Gambian Armed Forces, where he became Director of Finance. In September 2016, Bah replaced Ousman Sonko as Minister of the Interior but resigned in January 2017 when Jammeh's term as President drew to a close. On 27 January, it was revealed that Bah had been re-appointed as Director of Finance, but he was later removed from the Armed Forces by President Adama Barrow on 27 February 2017. ... The Gambia Armed Forces, also known as the Armed Forces of The Gambia, consists of three branches: the Gambia National Army (GNA), the Gambia Navy, and the Republican National Guard (RNG). Yahya Jammeh
Yahya Abdul-Aziz Jemus Junkung Jammeh (born 25 May 1965) is a Gambian politician and former military officer who was the leader of The Gambia from 1994 to 2017, firstly as chairman of the Armed Forces Provisional Ruling Council (AFPRC) from 1994 to 1996 and then as President of the Gambia from 1996 to 2017. Jammeh was born in Kanilai, in The Gambia, and is a Muslim of the Jola ethnic group. He attended Gambia High School in Banjul from 1978 to 1983 and served in the Gambian National Gendarmerie from 1984 to 1989. 2016–2017 Gambian Constitutional Crisis
The Gambian constitutional crisis occurred following Gambian presidential election, 2016, presidential elections in December 2016, in which challenger Adama Barrow achieved an upset victory over longtime incumbent Yahya Jammeh. It eventually concluded after a military intervention by the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) led to Jammeh’s departure from the country. Although Jammeh first accepted the victory of Adama Barrow on 1 December, he rejected the election results days later. Jammeh called for the election to be annulled, and appealed to the Supreme Court of the Gambia, Supreme Court, which refused to rule on the matter. He then deployed troops to the capital of Banjul and the city of Serekunda. Lang Tombong Tamba
Lang Tombong Tamba (born c. 1965) was the Chief of the Defense Staff of the Gambian Armed Forces until his arrest, detention and trial in an attempted coup. Early life and education A Jola, Tamba was born in Sintet, Foni Jarrol and probably lived in Casamance as a child, before attending Nusrat High School. Military career He joined the Gambian National Army (GNA) as a recruit in October 1986. At the time of Yahya Jammeh coup in 1994, he was a Lieutenant and the third in command of the presidential guard unit of President Dawda Jawara. During the coup, he sought to prevent a clash between the coup makers and the presidential guards, and although Jammeh ordered his arrest, the decision was almost immediately reversed. Ousman Sonko
Ousman Sonko (born 9 January 1969) is a former Gambian politician. He served as Interior Minister between 2006 and 2016 under the Gambian dictator Yahya Jammeh. During this period he is suspected of taking part in acts of torture, including in detention centers. Youth Sonko was born in Serekunda. Military career Sonko had a career in the military, starting in 1989. In early 2000 he served as commander of the State Guards Battalion. Adama Barrow ( ff, 𞤀𞥄𞤣𞤢𞤥𞤢 𞤄𞤢𞥄𞤪𞤮, Aadama Baaro, born 15 February 1965) is a Gambian politician and real estate developer who has served as President of the Gambia since 2017. Born in Mankamang Kunda, a village near Basse Santa Su, he attended Crab Island Secondary School and the Muslim High School, the latter on a scholarship. He then worked for Alhagie Musa Njie & Sons, a Gambian energy company, where he became a sales manager. Ousman Rambo Jatta (born 13 June 1969), known as Rambo, is a Gambian politician. He is currently a councillor in Old Bakau and deputy leader of the Alliance for Patriotic Reorientation and Construction (APRC). Political career Jatta was a member of the United Democratic Party (UDP). In 2006, he protested against suspected misconduct in the Gambian presidential election. He claimed that a group of people travelling in army vehicles on their way to vote were, instead of Gambian soldiers, non-Gambians dressed in military uniforms.
