Moltke
The House of Moltke is the name of an old German noble family. The family was originally from Mecklenburg, but apart from Germany, some of the family branches also resided throughout Scandinavia. Members of the family have been noted as pigfarmers, high military officers and major landowners in Denmark and Prussia. History The family is descended from ''Fridericus Meltiko'', a knight from Mecklenburg who lived in the mid 13th century. The family was awarded with the title of Count on 13.12.1834 in Denmark. They were also created Counts in Prussia on 17.2.1868 by King William I of Prussia. Hans-Adolf Von Moltke
Hans-Adolf Helmuth Ludwig Erdmann Waldemar von Moltke (29 November 188422 March 1943) was a German landowner in Silesia who became a diplomat. He served as ambassador in Poland during the Weimar Republic. After the German invasion of Poland, he became Adolf Hitler's ambassador in Spain during the Second World War. Early life and career Moltke was born in Oppeln (now Opole), in Upper Silesia, into one of Germany's most famous aristocratic families. Moltke's father, Fredrich von Moltke, served as the Prussian minister of the interior. Moltke was a devout Lutheran and held the standard nationalist and conservative views that were typical of the German aristocracy in the late 19th century. Helmuth James Graf Von Moltke
Helmuth James Graf von Moltke (11 March 1907 – 23 January 1945) was a German jurist who, as a draftee in the German Abwehr, acted to subvert German human-rights abuses of people in territories occupied by Germany during World War II. He was a founding member of the Kreisau Circle opposition group, whose members opposed the government of Adolf Hitler in Nazi Germany, and discussed prospects for a Germany based on moral and democratic principles after Hitler. The Nazis executed him for treason for his participation in these discussions. Moltke was the grandnephew of Helmuth von Moltke the Younger and the great-grandnephew of Helmuth von Moltke the Elder, the victorious commander in the Austro-Prussian and Franco-Prussian Wars, from whom he inherited the Kreisau estate in Prussian Silesia, now Krzyżowa in Poland. Helmuth Von Moltke The Younger
Graf Helmuth Johannes Ludwig von Moltke (; 25 May 1848 – 18 June 1916), also known as Moltke the Younger, was a German general and Chief of the Great German General Staff. He was also the nephew of '' Generalfeldmarschall'' ''Graf'' Helmuth Karl Bernhard von Moltke, who is commonly called "Moltke the Elder" to differentiate the two. Upon becoming the head of the General Staff, Moltke led the German Army from 1 January 1906 to 14 September 1914 during the opening months of World War I. Count Adam Gottlob von Moltke (10 November 171025 September 1792) was a Danish courtier, statesman and diplomat, and Favourite of Frederick V of Denmark. Moltke was born at Riesenhof in Mecklenburg. His son, Joachim Godske Moltke, and his grandson, Adam Wilhelm Moltke, later served as Prime Minister of Denmark. Otto Magnus Ludwig Gerhard Graf von Moltke von Rantzau (13 August 1851 – 13 January 1881), also known as Otto von Moltke, was a German-Danish military officer who fought in the Franco-Prussian War in 1870 and, after emigrating to Chile in 1876, in the War of the Pacific in 1879. Count Carl Poul Oscar Moltke (2 January 1869 – 5 September 1935) was the Danish minister to the United States in 1908 and the Foreign Minister of Denmark 1924–1926. Harald Viggo Moltke (14 December 1871 – 24 June 1960) was a Danish painter, author and explorer. Among his activities Moltke, participated as draftsman in four Arctic expeditions. Early life and education Harald Moltke was born in Helsingør, the son of Oskar Peter August Moltke (1828–82) and Karen Marie Jensdatter (1849-1939). He spent 10 years in North Carolina as a child between 1874 and 1884. After the death of his father, the family returned to Denmark. In 1889, he began a course of study at the Royal Danish Academy of Fine Arts in Copenhagen, which he completed in 1893. Else Moltke
Else Moltke (1888–1986) was a Danish Danish nobility, countess, writer and women's rights activist. A keen contributor to newspapers and magazines from the early 1930s, she wrote mainly about historical figures, a topic which was behind ''Fra Bondehus til Herregaard'' (From Farmhouse to Manor, 1941). As a feminist, she recognized the difficulties women faced in achieving success. In 1941 she founded and ran a women's discussion club (Kvindelige Diskussionsklub) in Copenhagen which over the years achieved a membership of some 800. From the mid-1960s, Moltke published 14 books, the most successful of which was ''Fra herregård til kunstnerhus'' (From Manor to Artists' House, 1965). Joachim Godske von Moltke (25 July 1746 – 5 October 1818) was the Prime Minister of Denmark from 1814 to 1818. He was also father of Prime Minister Adam Wilhelm Moltke and the son of Danish diplomat Adam Gottlob Moltke. Early life Joachim Godske Moltke was born on 25 July 1746. Lieutenant General Kuno Augustus Friedrich Karl Detlev Graf von Moltke (13 December 1847 – 19 March 1923), adjutant to Wilhelm II of Germany, Kaiser Wilhelm II and military commander of Berlin, was a principal in the homosexual scandal known as the Harden-Eulenburg Affair (1907) that rocked the Kaiser's entourage.
