The Mini Moke (styled "MOKE") is a small, front-wheel-drive utility and recreational convertible, conceived and manufactured as a lightweight military vehicle by British Motor Corporation (BMC), and subsequently marketed for civilian use under the Austin, Morris, Leyland, and Moke brands. The name "Mini Moke" combines ''Mini'' with ''Moke'', an archaic term for " mule". The Moke is known for its simple, straightforward, doorless design, and for its adaptability. The first Mokes were manufactured at BMC's Longbridge, Birmingham plant, with 14,518 produced in the UK between 1964 and 1968. 26,000 were manufactured in Australia between 1966 and 1981, and 10,000 in Portugal between 1980 and 1993 when, after a nearly 30-year run, production ended. Moke is a Dutch band from Amsterdam, which was founded in 2005. They published their debut album Shorland in 2007. The band is most popular in the Netherlands, where they became commonly known after a performance in the daily television show 'De Wereld Draait Door'. Their single "This Plan" is used by Toyota in the commercial for the Yaris. They performed at several festivals, like ''London Calling'', Lowlands and Pinkpop. They also were the supporting act of Paul Weller, Keane, Razorlight and Amy MacDonald. In 2008 they played the Pinkpop festival, opening the main stage on the main day. Hans Moke Niemann (born June 20, 2003) is an American chess grandmaster and Twitch streamer. He was awarded the Grandmaster title by FIDE on January 22, 2021. In July 2021, he won the World Open chess tournament in Philadelphia. Niemann first entered the Top 100 Junior players list at position 88 on March 1, 2019. As of January 2023, he is the fifth-highest-rated Junior in the world and 35th overall. Niemann is currently embroiled in an ongoing cheating controversy that began after he defeated world champion Magnus Carlsen in the third round of the 2022 Sinquefield Cup. Carlsen initially made no direct accusation, but did post a cryptic tweet, which together with ramped-up security measures in the fourth round implied an accusation of cheating. Moke is a term used in the British Isles as slang for "donkey". In Australia it refers to a nag or inferior horse, and is employed by residents of the Hawaiian Islands in similar fashion as the British to derogatorily describe segments of the local Polynesian population. Moke Lake
Moke Lake is a small lake near the suburb of Closeburn in Queenstown, in the South Island of New Zealand. Names Kai Tahu call the lakes Punamāhaka and Waikāmāhaka. Both mean “twin waters”, describing the peculiar shape of the lake. Moke Lake and Moke Creek were named after an old mule on a farm there. Description The lake is a popular recreation spot, especially during summer. Popular activities there include boating, camping, horseback riding, and swimming. The boat speed on the lake is limited to 5 km/hr. A track encircles the lake which also links up with Lake Dispute. Additionally, the Moonlight Track connects up with Arthurs Point.
