Mohlendorph Creek
Pipers Creek is a urban stream that is located in the Broadview and Blue Ridge neighborhoods of Seattle, Washington, in the United States. Course and features The entire length of the creek is within the boundaries of Carkeek Park, and its mouth is at Puget Sound. Its tributaries are Venema Creek and Mohlendorph Creek. The creek was renamed "Piper's" by white settler A. W. Piper, but now apostrophe is often left out. The Duwamish tribe called the creek "Dropped Down" (Lushootseed: qWátub). Daylighted Mohlendorph Creek is mostly within the boundaries of Carkeek Park. It receives Venema Creek and empties into Pipers Creek near the mouth on Puget Sound. Most of daylighted Venema Creek is within Carkeek Park. It empties into Mohlendorph Creek, just west of the Carkeek Park Environmental Education Center. Daylighting can be defined as "opening up buried watercourses and restoring them to more natural conditions". An alternative definition refers to "the practice of removing streams from buried conditions and exposing them to the Earth's surface in order to directly or indirectly enhance the ecological, economic and/or socio-cultural well-being of a region and its inhabitants”. The term is used to refer to the restoration of an originally open-air watercourse, which had at some point been diverted below ground, back into an above-ground channel. Boeing Creek
Boeing Creek is a stream in the U.S. state of Washington, located in the city of Shoreline, just north of Seattle. It is about long and empties into Puget Sound. The creek is heavily modified along its course, and in many places has been diverted into culverts. The watershed of Boeing Creek is about in size, with two main tributaries aside from the mainstem. The creek takes its name from William Boeing, who built a mansion along the creek in 1913. Despite the river modifications and stormwater pollution, the creek supports a variety of riparian habitats, native animals and fishes. Lushootseed (txʷəlšucid, dxʷləšúcid), also Puget Salish, Puget Sound Salish or Skagit-Nisqually, is a language made up of a dialect continuum of several Salish tribes of modern-day Washington state. Lushootseed is one of the Coast Salish languages, one of two main divisions of the Salishan language family. Its pre-contact range extended from modern-day Olympia, Washington to Vancouver, British Columbia, spoken by roughly 12 thousand at its peak. The dialects of the language can be split into two categories: northern and southern, which can further be split into dialects spoken by the individual peoples who spoke it. The Duwamish ( lut, Dxʷdəwʔabš, ) are a Lushootseed-speaking Native American tribe in western Washington, and the indigenous people of metropolitan Seattle, where they have been living since the end of the last glacial period (c. 8000 BCE, 10,000 years ago).
