Mohd Zaman Khan
Tan Sri Mohd Zaman Khan bin Rahim Khan (21 December 1941 – 11 September 2021) was a former Malaysian police officer. He was well-known for handling many high-profile cases in the 1990s, such as the Mona Fandey murder case, bringing down local gangster P. Kalimuthu (Bentong Kali), and helping to coordinate rescue efforts during the Highland Towers apartment collapse. Early life and education Mohd Zaman Khan was born on 21 December 1941 at Pasir Mas, Kelantan. He was educated at Victoria Institution in 1959. Police career Mohd Zaman Khan joined the Royal Federation of Malaya Police as a Cadet Assistant Superintendent of Police on 1 June 1962. Victoria Institution
The Victoria Institution is the oldest secondary school in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. It is a memorial school, so-called because it was partly funded by public subscription intended for the erection of a permanent memorial to commemorate the Golden Jubilee of Queen Victoria in 1887. The establishment of the school was further supported by financial contributions from the Sultan and government of Selangor, prominent Kuala Lumpur residents, and the general public. The school reverted to its original name (instead of SMK Victoria) in February 2009, after being granted approval in recognition of its having been declared part of Malaysia's national heritage. The Most Esteemed Order of the Defender of the Realm ( ms, Darjah Yang Mulia Pangkuan Negara) is a Malaysian federal award presented for meritorious service to the country. Highland Towers Tragedy
The Highland Towers collapse occurred on 11 December 1993 in Taman Hillview, Ulu Klang, Selangor, Malaysia. Tower Block 1 collapsed from a major landslide caused by heavy rains that burst diversion pipes. The Highland Towers consisted of three 12-storey buildings or "blocks". The collapse of Block 1 resulted in 48 deaths. Residents of the other two blocks and neighbouring establishments were evacuated due to safety concerns. The Highland Towers complex was built in phases between 1974 and 1982. It was constructed at the western base of a steeply sloped hill, terraced extensively in the early 1980s. Block 1 was the southernmost building, Block 2 was built north-northwest of Block 1, and Block 3 was built west of Block 2. Kalimuthu s/o Pakirisamy or P. Kalimuthu (22 January 1961 – 29 June 1993), known professionally as Bentong Kali, was a Malaysian criminal and gangster, who gained a national attention in the 1990s. He was implicated in 17 different murders, and terrorized the capital Kuala Lumpur through violence, extortion and heroin smuggling. Klang or Kelang, officially Royal City of Klang ( ms, Bandar Diraja Klang), is a royal city and former capital of the state of Selangor, Malaysia. It is located within the Klang District.
