Mohammed Habib Tijani
Mohammad Habibu Tijani is a Ghanaian politician and former member of the Seventh Parliament of the Fourth Republic of Ghana representing the Yendi Constituency in the Northern Region on the ticket of the New Patriotic Party. Early life and education Tijani was born on 16 February 1965. He hails from Yendi in the Northern Region of Ghana. He went to Ghana College, now Ghana Senior High School(GHANASCO), Tamale. He received his Teachers' Certificate 'A' in 1989 from the Bagabaga Training College. He later proceeded to the University of Ghana where he obtained his Bachelor of Arts (BA) degree in the Study of Religion with first class honours in 2000. He holds a master's degree in Governance and Leadership from the Ghana Institute of Management and Public Administration (GIMPA) and a post graduate diploma in education which he received in 2016 from Valley View University, Oyibi. Yendi is one of the constituencies represented in the Parliament of Ghana. It elects one Member of Parliament (MP) by the first past the post system of election. It is located in the Northern Region of Ghana. he current member of Parliament for the constituency is Sulemana Ibn Iddrisu. He was elected on the ticket of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) and won a majority of 617 votes more than candidate closest in the race, to win the constituency election to become the MP. 2016 Ghanaian General Election
General elections were held in Ghana on 7 December 2016 to elect a President and Members of Parliament. They had originally been scheduled for 7 November 2016, but the date was later rejected by Parliament. Former foreign minister Nana Akufo-Addo of the opposition New Patriotic Party was elected President on his third attempt, defeating incumbent President John Mahama of the National Democratic Congress. The election results were announced on 9 December 2016 due to a delay of voting in two areas. At 19:51 local time, Mahama called Akufo-Addo to concede defeat. At 20:45, the Electoral Commission declared that Akufo-Addo had defeated Mahama in a single round. It was the first time in Ghana's history that a sitting president had been defeated for reelection. Yendi
Yendi is a town and the capital of Yendi Municipal district in the Northern Region of Ghana. As of 2012 the population of Yendi was 52,008 people. It is the seat of the King of the Dagombas. Climate Economy The people of Yendi are mainly peasant farmers who grow grains especially corn, guinea corn and millet. They also grow tubers such as yam. Yendi is a commercial hub as it is caught in the middle of most towns/villages in the northern corridor. Most people travelling to Tamale and beyond from the Eastern corridor have to go through Yendi thus making it an important transport hub. Central Gonja District
Central Gonja District is one of the seven districts in Savannah Region, Ghana. Originally it was formerly part of the then-larger West Gonja District on 23 December 1988, until the part of the district was split off by a decree of president John Agyekum Kufuor in August 2004 to create Central Gonja District; thus the remaining part has been retained as West Gonja Municipal District (which it was elevated to municipal district assembly status on 27 January 2020). Yendi Senior High School
Yendi Senior High School (YESS) is coeducational secondary school at Yendi in the Northern Region of Ghana. The school was established in 1970, first as middle boarding school to enable access to basic education for communities in the Eastern Corridor enclave before it was upgraded in September same year to the status of a secondary school. For the first academic year, the school had only 77 total student population with 70 boys and seven girls. The first headmaster of the school was Cletus Bernard Teviu. He headed the school for nearly a decade spanning between 1970 and 1979 and one of the hostels in the school has been named in his honour. In the year 2020 when the school celebrated its 50 years anniversary, total student population was 2,724 and number of teachers were 121.
