Mohammed Gargo
Mohammed Gargo (born 19 June 1975) is a Ghanaian former professional footballer who played as a defender. Playing career Club Torino Gargo's performances at the 1991 FIFA U-17 World Championship brought him to the notice of European clubs' scouts. He had initially agreed to join Bayer 04 Leverkusen alongside fellow Ghana national under-17 football team member Sebastian Barnes. However Leverkusen withdrew from the Gargo transfer when it became evident that they could not compete financially with a much larger offer from Torino. In October 1991 a payment of 100,000,000 Italian lira to Gargo's parents secured his move to Turin, where he was joined by his national under-17 team colleagues Samuel Kuffour and Emmanuel Duah. The lira (; plural lire) was the currency of Italy between 1861 and 2002. Sebastian Barnes (footballer)
Sebastian Barnes (born 18 November 1976) is a Ghanaian former footballer who played at both professional and international levels as a midfielder. Club career Barnes began his career with Hearts of Oak, before playing for top-level German teams Bayer Leverkusen and Mainz 05. In 1997, Barnes played for the Orlando Sundogs in the USISL A-League. After leaving Mainz in 1998, Barnes played for a number of lower league German clubs, including VfL Hamm/Sieg and SF Neitersen. International career After representing Ghana at the FIFA U-17 World Championship in both 1991 and 1993, Barnes earned one cap for the senior team in 1994. Ghana National Under-17 Football Team
The Ghana national U-17 football team, known as the Black Starlets, is the youngest team that represents Ghana in football. They are two-time FIFA U-17 World Cup Champions in 1991 and 1995 and a two-time Runner-up in 1993 and 1997. A football scout attends football matches on the behalf of clubs to collect intelligence. Typically, there are two types of scouts: player scouts and tactical scouts. Player scouts or physical scouts evaluate the talent of footballers with a view to signing them on a professional contract for their employers. Some scouts focus on discovering promising young players and future stars, others are employed to run the rule on potential signings. 1991 FIFA U-17 World Championship
The 1991 FIFA U-17 World Championship, the fourth edition of the tournament, was held in the cities of Florence, Montecatini Terme, Viareggio, Massa, Carrara, and Livorno in Italy between 16 August and 31 August 1991. Players born after 1 August 1974 could participate in this tournament. Saudi Arabia, the 1989 champions, were not able to defend their title as they withdrew from the final round of the AFC qualifying tournament, citing the Blue Diamond Affair. The tournament was originally to be scheduled in Ecuador, but due to the cholera outbreak earlier that year, it was moved to Italy, which hosted the previous year's World Cup.
