Mohammed Amin (politician)
Mohammed Amin (15 April 1928 – 12 February 2018) was an Indian politician from the Communist Party of India (Marxist), the largest communist party in India. He was a Vice President of the Centre of Indian Trade Unions. He was a member of the Parliament of India representing West Bengal in the Rajya Sabha, the upper house of the Indian Parliament from 1988-1994. He was also the All India General Secretary of the Centre of Indian Trade Unions, the workers union politically affiliated to the Communist Party of India (Marxist). Early life He was born to an Urdu-speaking family at Shibpur in April 1928. His grandfather Abdur Rehman hailed from Varanasi District and was a farmer, who had left for Karachi and had then settled at Shibpur. Amin's father was brought up by a vindictive step-mother. Mohammed Amin is a British businessman who has been Chairman of the Conservative Muslim Forum, an affiliated group within the British Conservative Party, since mid-2014. The Conservative Muslim chief is reported in June 2019 as having been expelled from the Tory Muslim group following his strong public criticism of the 'moral integrity' of Boris Johnson. He resigned from the Conservative Party on 23 July 2019 when Johnson was announced as the new leader. He writes regularly about political and community cohesion issues on the ConservativeHome website. Amin has lived in the UK since 1952. Mohamed Amin (29 August 1943 – 23 November 1996) was a Kenyan photojournalist. Amin's filming of Michael Buerk's report of the 1984 Ethiopian famine brought international attention to the crisis and eventually helped start the charity wave that resulted in Live Aid concerts. Amin died in November 1996 when his flight Ethiopian Airlines Flight 961 was hijacked and crashed into the Indian Ocean near Grande Comore. Mohammad Amin (22 January 1928 – 15 December 2012) was an Indian historian. He was the vice chancellor of Jamia Hamdard; taught History at St. Stephen's College, Delhi University for four decades; and was awarded the Padma Bhushan in 2010. Early life and career Amin was born at Qasba Mau-Aima, on the banks of River Ganges, in Prayagraj district of the former United Provinces. Amin was married to Khurshid and the couple had a son, Shahid Amin, the historian and Rhodes Scholar, and a daughter, Ghazala, who is herself a media personality and a teacher. His school education started in Prayagraj, from where he moved to Mughal Sarai and finally to Queens Collegiate School in Banares. Mohammad Amin (born 10 October 1920, date of death unknown) was a Pakistani cricketer who played first-class cricket from 1944 to 1957, and played for Pakistan in the years before Pakistan played Test cricket. Cricket career A leg-spin and googly bowler, Mohammad Amin played for Northern India in the Ranji Trophy before Pakistan gained independence. In December 1947 he played in the first first-class match in Pakistan, representing Punjab against Sind. He took 3 for 52 and 6 for 113 to help Punjab to an innings victory. He was thus the first player to take six wickets in an innings in Pakistan. He took 15 wickets in that first short season of cricket in Pakistan; no one else took more than nine.
