Muhammad Yunus (born 1940) is a Bangladeshi economist and founder of the Grameen Bank, and a Nobel Peace Prize laureate. Muhammad Yunus
Muhammad Yunus (born 28 June 1940) is a Bangladeshi social entrepreneur, banker, economist and civil society leader who was awarded the Nobel Peace Prize for founding the Grameen Bank and pioneering the concepts of microcredit and microfinance. These loans are given to entrepreneurs too poor to qualify for traditional bank loans. Yunus and the Grameen Bank were jointly awarded the Nobel Peace Prize "for their efforts through microcredit to create economic and social development from below". The Norwegian Nobel Committee said that "lasting peace cannot be achieved unless large population groups find ways in which to break out of poverty" and that "across cultures and civilizations, Yunus and Grameen Bank have shown that even the poorest of the poor can work to bring about their own development". Mohammad Yunus (diplomat)
Mohammad Yunus Khan (26 June 1916 – 17 June 2001) was a member of Indian Foreign Service. He served as ambassador to Turkey, Indonesia, Iraq, and Spain. He promoted trade between India and the rest of the world through regular trade fairs and the establishment of exhibition complex at Pragati Maidan in Delhi. He also headed erstwhile Trade Fair Authority of India (TFAI) which is now rebranded as India Trade Promotion Organization. The Government of India awarded him the civilian honour of the Padma Bhushan. Personal details Yunus was born on 26 June 1916 in the city of Abbottabad, North-West Frontier Province, to Haji Ghulam Samdani and Murvari Jan. Mohammad Yunus (May 4, 1884 – May 13, 1952) was the first Premier of British India's Bihar province. During his career, the heads of provincial governments were called Prime Ministers. He governed for three months in 1937, during the state's first democratic election. Early life and education Mohammad Yunus, the younger of two brothers, was born on May 4, 1884, in Penhara, a village located in Patna (Bihar). He belonged to a Muslim family that traces its descent back to the Sufi saint Malik Ibrahim Bayu. He was the son of Ali Hassan Mukhtar, an advocate. His grandfather was Mohammad Azam, who served as District Judge of Munger (Monghyr). Muhammad Yunus Choudhury ( bn, মুহম্মদ ইউনুস চৌধুরী; 1906 — 14 February 1992), popularly known as Haji Muhammad Yunus ( bn, হাজী মুহম্মদ ইউনুস), was a Bangladeshi Islamic scholar and educationist. He was the second rector of Al Jamia Al Islamia Patiya, former president of Idarat al-Maʿarif and an active member of the Muslim World League. As the founding president of Befaqul Madarisil Arabia Bangladesh, Yunus contributed to the establishment and renovation of roughly 1500 madrasas in Bangladesh. Mawlawi Mohammad Yunus Khalis (alternate spellings Yunis and Younas) ( ps, محمد يونس خالص; c. 1919 – 19 July 2006) was a mujahideen commander in Afghanistan during the Soviet–Afghan War. Mohammad Yunus Saleem (1912 – 15 January 2004) was an Indian politician, scholar, and lawyer, who was also active in the religious field. Younus Qanooni ( prs, یونس قانونی, born on 10 May 1957 in Panjshir Valley) is an Afghan politician who was Vice President of Afghanistan. An ethnic Tajik, Qanooni is the leader of the '' Afghanistan e Naween'' (New Afghanistan) political party and former Speaker of the House of the People (the lower house of parliament or Wolesi Jirga). Mohammad Yunus was a Bangladeshi academic and Professor of economics at the University of Rajshahi. He was assassinated on 24 December 2004 by the Islamist terrorist organization Jamatul Mujahideen Bangladesh. He was one of four professors assassinated at Rajshahi University.
