Mohamed Waheed Hassan
Mohamed Waheed Hassan Manik ( dv, ޑރ. މުޙައްމަދު ވަޙީދު ޙަސަން މަނިކު; Arabic: مُحَمَّد وَحِيد حَسَن مَانِيك; born 3 January 1953) is a Maldivian politician who served as the fifth President of Maldives from 7 February 2012 to 17 November 2013, having succeeded to office following the resignation of President Mohamed Nasheed, under whom Waheed had served as Vice President. He had previously worked as a news anchor, a United Nations official with UNICEF, UNDP and UNESCO, and a member of the Maldivian Parliament. On 7 February 2012, he assumed the office of president following the resignation of the incumbent, Mohamed Nasheed. Initially, Nasheed claimed that a coup d'état had occurred, however these claims were proved to be false by an independent report from the Commission of National Inquiry. The Maldivian Democratic Party ( dv, ދިވެހި ރައްޔިތުންގެ ޑިމޮކްރެޓިކް ޕާޓީ, ''Dhivehi Rayyithunge Dimocretic Pati''; MDP) is the first political party formed in the Republic of Maldives with a total membership of 53,139 individuals as of 11 July 2021. Naushad Waheed
Naushad Waheed (born December 15, 1962, in Malé) is a cartoonist and painter from the Maldives. He was detained by the government for four months following the publication of one of his cartoons in the magazine '' Hukuru'' in 1999. In 2001 he was arrested for participating in debates critical of the government, tried for treason, and sentenced to 15 years in prison. He was released on February 22, 2006. Naushad Waheed is also the brother of Dr. Mohammed Waheed Hassan, a leading political figure who served as the 5th president of Maldives from 7 February 2012 to 17 November 2013. "Cotton-Eyed Joe" (also known as "Cotton-Eye Joe") is a traditional American country folk song popular at various times throughout the United States and Canada, although today it is most commonly associated with the American South. Ilyas Ibrahim (Dhivehi: އިލްޔާސް އިބްރާހިމް ) (born December 18, 1945) is the brother-in-law of the former President of the Maldives Maumoon Abdul Gayyoom. He was a minister in Maumoon's cabinet for a long time and served as an MP for the capital city Malé from 1980 to 1995. He also served as the MP for Laamu Atoll, & a member of People's Special Majilis, from 2003 to 2008. He was also the Minister of State for Defence, Minister of Home Affairs of Maldives and the head of State Trading Organization (STO) & Airports Company of the Maldives. Maumoon Abdul Gayoom (; dv, މައުމޫން ޢަބްދުލް ޤައްޔޫމް; born 29 December 1937) is a Maldivian politician and an Islamic scholar who served as the President of Maldives from 1978 to 2008. After serving as Minister of Transport, he was nominated as President by the Majlis (Parliament) of the Maldives and succeeded Ibrahim Nasir in 1978. He was defeated in the October 2008 presidential election. In opposition, he continued to serve as leader of the Dhivehi Rayyithunge Party until January 2010, when he retired from active politics. Abdulla Shahid ( dv, ޢަބްދުﷲ ޝާހިދު; born 26 May 1962) is Maldivian politician who served as President of the 76th United Nations General Assembly between 2021 and 2022.
