Mohamed Taib Bin Haji Abdul Samad
Mohamed Taib bin Haji Abdul Samad (1858–1925), also known as Haji Mohamed Taib was a significant merchant in the early history of Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. Haji Taib was born in Batusangkar, West Sumatra and moved to Kuala Lumpur at 18 years old. He owned tin mines, plantation land and large numbers of houses and shops mostly in Malay Street (Jalan Melayu), Kuala Lumpur. He was a close acquaintance of Sultan Abdul Samad. In the late of 19th century, Haji Taib was one of the wealthiest merchants and development centre of city, Kampung Baru. He had 10 children, six sons and four daughters. His brother, Haji Abbas bin Haji Abdul Samad, also regarded as prominent merchants in Kuala Lumpur and surrounding area. Today, there is a street named after him in the heart of Kuala Lumpur, known as 'Lorong Haji Taib'. Batusangkar (''batu'': stone, rock, ''sangkar'': cage) is the capital of the Tanah Datar regency of West Sumatra, Indonesia. It is known as "the city of culture". Sultan Abdul Samad ibni Almarhum Raja Abdullah ( Jawi: سلطان عبد الصمد ابن المرحوم راج عبد الله ; born Raja Abdul Samad bin Raja Abdullah, 1804 - 6 February 1898) was the fourth Sultan of Selangor. Raja Abdul Samad was born in 1804 at Bukit Melawati in Selangor son to Raja Abdullah ibni Almarhum Sultan Ibrahim Shah, the younger brother of Sultan Muhammad Shah. His reign lasted 41 years from 1857 until his death in 1898. Kampung Baru or ''Kampong Bharu'' (meaning "New Village") is a Malay enclave in central Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. Chow Kit
Chow Kit is a suburb in central Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. It is located around Jalan Chow Kit (Chow Kit Road) and is enclosed by the parallel streets of Jalan Raja Laut and Jalan Tuanku Abdul Rahman. It is named after Loke Chow Kit (陸秋傑) a well-known miner, municipal councilor, public official, and also the first local owner of a department store - Chow Kit & Co – which was the largest in KL at the time.
