Mohamed Lamine Ould Ahmed
Mohamed Lamine Ould Ahmed ( ar, محمد لامين ولد أحمد; born 1947) is a Sahrawi politician, writer and member of the Polisario Front. Since January 2012, he is the Minister of Health of the Sahrawi Republic. Born in Smara and being one of the founding members of the POLISARIO, Mohamed Lamine Ould Ahmed became the first Prime Minister of the Sahrawi Arab Democratic Republic (SADR) in 1976, and held the post until 1982. He returned to office in 1985–88 and has been a member of the National Secretariat of the Polisario since. Mahfoud Ali Beiba Hammad Dueihi ( ar, محفوظ علي بيبا حماد; born 1953 – died July 2, 2010) was a Sahrawi politician and co-founder of the Polisario Front, a national liberation movement that seeks self-determination for Western Sahara. From 1975 until his death, he lived in an exile in the refugee camps of Tindouf, Algeria. Youth and background Ali Beiba was born in 1953 in El Aaiún, the capital of the territory then called Spanish Sahara (now known as Moroccan Sahara). He studied in several Quranic schools, then the Primary and Secondary education at Spanish colonial schools, although he did not finish his studies because of family issues. As a child in El Aaiún, the Zemla Intifada occurred, in which an unknown number of Sahrawi civilians were killed by the Spanish Legion in a demonstration. The Sahrawi Arab Democratic Republic (; SADR; also romanized with Saharawi; ar, الجمهورية العربية الصحراوية الديمقراطية ' es, República Árabe Saharaui Democrática), also known as Western Sahara, is a partially recognized state, recognised by 45 UN member states, located in the western Maghreb, which claims the non-self-governing territory of Western Sahara, but controls only the easternmost one-fifth of that territory. Between 1884 and 1975, Western Sahara was known as Spanish Sahara, a Spanish colony (later an overseas province).
