A Lebanese-Canadian, Mohamed Hussein al-Husseini ar, محمد حسين الحسيني) was a member of Hezbollah who lived in Montreal, Quebec and informed authorities about a vast "support network" for the organisation that existed throughout Canada, before being returned to Lebanon in 1994. Lebanese Canadians are Canadians of Lebanese origin. According to the 2016 Census there were 219,555 Canadians who claimed Lebanese ancestry, showing an increase compared to the 2006 Census, making them by far the largest group of people with Arabic-speaking roots. As of the 2016 census, they are also one of the largest communities of Asian origin in the country. History Lebanese immigration began in 1882. Kuwait Airways Flight 422
Kuwait Airways Flight 422 was a Boeing 747 jumbo jet hijacked en route from Bangkok, Thailand, to Kuwait on 5 April 1988, leading to a hostage crisis that lasted 16 days and encompassed three continents. The hijacking was carried out by several Lebanese guerillas who demanded the release of 17 Shi'ite Muslim prisoners being held by Kuwait for their role in the 1983 Kuwait bombings. During the incident the flight, initially forced to land in Iran, traveled from Mashhad in northeastern Iran to Larnaca, Cyprus, and finally to Algiers. Kuwait sent officials to negotiate with the group, but negotiations became bogged down because the terrorists refused to release the hostages.
