Mohamed Demsiri
Mohamed Ajahud (full name: al-hajj Muhamad ibn Lahsen ad-Damsiri; 1936 – 11 November 1989), widely known as Mohamed Demsiri (in amazigh: Muḥmmad Albensir), was a Moroccan singer-poet (''ṛṛays'') and rebab player. He sang in Shilha. He is considered to be the most representative modern classical singer of ''amarg ajdid'' "the new generation of singers". Biography He was born in 1936 in Tamsoult in the Demsira region, but he lived most of his life in Casablanca. His father was a butcher. His last name was Ajaḥud. Thus, his artistic name ''Demsiri'' which means "from Demsira". However, his real name is Muḥammad Ajaḥud. He studied in a quranic school in order to teach the Qur'an in turn, but he didn't do it. He started to become famous in 1963. He had been the pupil of several masters, the least well known but nevertheless the most appreciated was the al-hajj Muḥammad Umarak. Said Achtouk
Said Achtouk (1925 – September 7, 1989) was a Moroccan singer, poet (''ṛṛays'') and songwriter. He wrote and sang in Tashelhit. Biography Said Bizrane or Achtouk was born in the village of Bizourane, part of Idaou-Bouzia which is one of the renowned tribes of Chtouka. Thus, his artistic name Achtouk which means "from Chtouka" in Tachelhit. He started singing and writing poems early in life while participating in traditional dancing celebrations called ''Ajmak''. He was inspired by many Shilha artists such as Lhaj Belaid, Anchad and Boudraa. His professional career started officially when he met Ahmed Amentag in 1958 after which he founded his musical band including artists such as Fatima Tabaamrant and Rkia Damsiria. Achtouk died on September 7, 1989, in Rabat. Legacy Said Achtouk wrote several songs treating several social, cultural and political topics. Omar Wahrouch
Omar Wahrouch (19261994) was a Moroccan singer-poet (''ṛṛays'') and songwriter. He wrote and sang in Tashelhit. Biography Omar Wahrouch was born in a small town near Imintanoute in the region of Marrakesh, Morocco. The date of his birth is contested between 1926 and 1933 due to the uncommon recording of births in that period. He was influenced by his father who was also a musician (''rayss'') and taught him the skills of playing Rebab and poetry. His musical career began in 1952 when he performed in public with the song "The Officer" about French colonialism, which led to his imprisonment for three months. After Moroccan independence, he continued performing in national and international festivals and concerts. He performed in France in 1963 and Belgium in 1964 before going on pilgrimage in 1968.
