Margin Of Exposure
In toxicology, the margin of exposure (or MOE) of a substance is the ratio of its no-observed-adverse-effect level to its theoretical, predicted, or estimated dose or concentration of human intake. It is used in risk assessment to determine the dangerousness of substances that are both genotoxic and carcinogenic. This approach is preferred by both the World Health Organization and the European Food Safety Authority The European Food Safety Authority (EFSA) is the agency of the European Union (EU) that provides independent scientific advice and communicates on existing and emerging risks associated with the food chain. EFSA was established in February 2002, ... for the evaluation of the risk of carcinogens. References Toxicology {{Toxicology-stub ... Battleships Asbjørnsen And Moe
The battleships ''Asbjørnsen'' and ''Moe'' were two fictitious ships that raised concern in the Swedish intelligence services at the time of the dissolution of the union between Norway and Sweden in 1905. A Norwegian emigrant to Argentina, the wealthy businessman and diplomat Peter "Don Pedro" Christophersen, had negotiated with the government of Argentina to purchase two battleships. In the end, no deal was concluded, but the rumor disturbed the Swedes—and Prime Minister Christian Michelsen declined to deny that the purchase had taken place. The non-existent battleships were christened the ''Asbjørnsen'' and ''Moe'' after the writers Peter Christen Asbjørnsen and Jørgen Moe. The incident took place in the context of naval tensions between Norway and Sweden following Norwegian independence, which came to a head in the Admiral Conflict ( no, Admiralstriden). At the time, the Royal Norwegian Navy was more suitable for coastal defense, but the Swedish navy was much stronger ... Margin Of Error
The margin of error is a statistic expressing the amount of random sampling error in the results of a survey. The larger the margin of error, the less confidence one should have that a poll result would reflect the result of a census of the entire population. The margin of error will be positive whenever a population is incompletely sampled and the outcome measure has positive variance, which is to say, the measure ''varies''. The term ''margin of error'' is often used in non-survey contexts to indicate observational error in reporting measured quantities. Concept Consider a simple ''yes/no'' poll P as a sample of n respondents drawn from a population N \text(n \ll N) reporting the percentage p of ''yes'' responses. We would like to know how close p is to the true result of a survey of the entire population N, without having to conduct one. If, hypothetically, we were to conduct poll P over subsequent samples of n respondents (newly drawn from N), we would expect those subs ... Molecular Operating Environment
Molecular Operating Environment (MOE) is a drug discovery software platform that integrates visualization, modeling and simulations, as well as methodology development, in one package. MOE scientific applications are used by biologists, medicinal chemists and computational chemists in pharmaceutical, biotechnology and academic research. MOE runs on Windows, Linux, Unix, and macOS. Main application areas in MOE include structure-based design, fragment-based design, ligand-based design, pharmacophore discovery, medicinal chemistry applications, biologics applications, structural biology and bioinformatics, protein and antibody modeling, molecular modeling and simulations, virtual screening, cheminformatics & QSAR. The Scientific Vector Language ( SVL) is the built-in command, scripting and application development language of MOE. Mixture Of Experts
Mixture of experts (MoE) refers to a machine learning technique where multiple expert networks (learners) are used to divide a problem space into homogeneous regions. It differs from ensemble techniques in that typically only a few, or 1, expert model will be run, rather than combining results from all models. An example from computer vision is combining one neural network model for human detection with another for pose estimation. Hierarchical mixture If the output is conditioned on multiple levels of (probabilistic) gating functions, the mixture is called a hierarchical mixture of experts. A gating network decides which expert to use for each input region. Learning thus consists of learning the parameters of: * individual learners and * gating network. Applications Meta uses MoE in its NLLB-200 system. It uses multiple MoE models that share capacity for use by low-resource language models A language model is a probability distribution over sequences of words. Given ... Moe Island
Moe Island is an island long in the South Orkney Islands off Antarctica, separated from the south-west end of Signy Island by Fyr Channel. It was charted by Captain Petter Sørlle in 1912–13, and named after M. Thoralf Moe of Sandefjord, Norway, a contemporary whaling captain who worked in this area. The northernmost point of the island is Spaull Point, named by United Kingdom Antarctic Place-Names Committee (UK-APC) after Vaughan W. Spaull, British Antarctic Survey (BAS) biologist on Signy Island, 1969. Antarctic Specially Protected Area The island has been designated an Antarctic Specially Protected Area (ASPA 109) mainly for its biological values, especially the banks of '' Chorisodontium''–''Polytrichum'' moss turf and ''Andreaea''–''Usnea '' fellfield. The cryptogamic flora is diverse, though in places the moss turf is subject to damage by Antarctic fur seals. The mites '' Stereotydeus villosus'' and ''Gamasellus racovitzai'', as well as the springtail ''Cryptopygu ...
