Modesto City Schools
Modesto City School District is a public school district based in Stanislaus County, California, United States, with an enrollment of approximately 32,000 students. Founded in 1871, the district consists of an elementary district and a high school district with a common administration. Seven other elementary school districts, Empire Union, Hart-Ransom Union, Paradise, Salida Union, Shiloh, Stanislaus Union, and Sylvan Union, feed into Modesto City Schools at the high school level. The district comprises 22 elementary schools (grades K–6), 4 middle schools (grades 7–8), 9 high schools (grades 9–12), and an alternative-education program. Peter Johansen High School is public school located in the eastern portion of Modesto, CA. It is part of Modesto City Schools and serves students in grades 9-12. The school is a two-story structure with brick exterior. It features an Olympic-sized pool, two baseball fields, a softball and soccer field, three indoor full-size basketball courts, tennis courts, and a football stadium across the street from the campus. Joseph A. Gregori High School is a high school in Modesto, California, United States. When it opened in fall 2010, it was the seventh comprehensive high school in Modesto City Schools. History Planning for this school started in the early 1990s, following a lengthy history within the district of the need for another campus to accommodate students in the Salida area and northwest Modesto, relieving overcrowding at Modesto and Davis High School. In 2001, Modesto City Schools passed a high school bond called Measure T that provided $65 million for the construction of two high schools. The school is named for Joseph Gregori, who served as a principal, teacher, and coach in the Modesto City Schools for 28 years before his death in 1998 at age 50. Thomas Downey High School (TDHS) is a High School in Modesto, California. It is one of the seven high schools in Modesto. Thomas Downey High is the second oldest high school in the city of Modesto and its doors opened to students in the Fall of 1951. Its mascot is the Knight, but they are sometimes humorously referred to as the "Downey Ducks." The school's current student population is approximately 2,000 in Grades 9 through 12.
