Modern Pentathlon At The 2016 Summer Olympics – Men's
The men's modern pentathlon at the 2016 Summer Olympics in Rio de Janeiro was held on 19 August. Three venues were used: Deodoro Aquatics Centre (swimming), Deodoro Stadium (horse-riding and combined running and shooting) and Youth Arena (fencing). The medals were presented by Timothy Fok, IOC member, Hong Kong and Klaus Schormann, President of the UIPM. Competition format The modern pentathlon consisted of five events, all held on the same day. The format was slightly different from the typical modern pentathlon, with two events combined at the end. * Fencing: A round-robin, one-touch épée competition. Score was based on winning percentage. * Swimming: A 200 m freestyle race. Charles “Max” Fernandez (born ) is a Labour Party politician from Antigua and Barbuda who was the Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Trade from June 2014 to 2018. James Cooke (born 3 March 1991) is a British modern pentathlete. Cooke is both the 2018 World and 2019 European champion in the individual event, and the 2019 European Champion in the Team event with Tom Toolis and Joe Choong. In 2022 Cooke announced about his retirement as pentathlete and new career as the head coach for Greek modern pentathlon national team. Career Cooke competed at the 2016 Summer Olympics in Rio de Janeiro, in the men's event, where he finished 14th. At the 2018 World Modern Pentathlon Championships held in Mexico City, Cooke overtook Valentin Prades who had celebrated too early to finish in first place. Nathan Schrimsher
Nathan Schrimsher (born May 22, 1992) is an American modern pentathlete. He competed in the inaugural Youth Olympic Games (YOG) in August 2010 where he placed 13th in the individual event and 16th in the mixed relay. He was teamed with Cuban Leydi Laura Moya Lopez in the mixed relay. It is believed this was the first time that an American and a Cuban teamed up together in an Olympic style event in decades. He won the bronze at the 2015 Pan American Games in Toronto, thereby earning a spot on the U.S. Olympic team for the 2016 games in Rio. Joseph Choong (born 23 May 1995) is a British Modern pentathlon, modern pentathlete. He won the gold medal in the event at the 2020 Summer Olympics and the 2022 World Modern Pentathlon Championships, World title in 2022. Early life Choong was born in Orpington, South East London to a Malaysian Chinese father Michael Choong and a British mother Beverley, both doctors.
