Modern Pentathlon At The 2023 Pan American Games
Modern pentathlon competitions at the 2023 Pan American Games in Santiago, Chile are scheduled to be held between October 21 and 27, 2023 at the Las Condes Military School. 5 medal events are scheduled to be contested. Two are individual events, one per gender. A further three events (men, women and mixed) in the relay format will be contested. The top two athletes from North America and South America in individual event, along with the next highest non-qualified athlete will qualify for the 2024 Summer Olympics in Paris, France. Qualification system A total of 66 Modern pentathletes will qualify to compete. Each nation may enter a maximum of 6 athletes (three per gender), except for the winners of the individual events at the 2021 Junior Pan American Games. Modern pentathlon competitions at the 2019 Pan American Games in Lima, Peru were held between July 27 and 30, 2019 at the Military School of Chorrillos. Five medal events were contested. Two were individual events, one per gender. A further three events (men, women and mixed) in the relay format were contested, after the Panamsports added them to the sports program. The top two athletes from North American and South America, along with the next highest non-qualified athlete qualified for the 2020 Summer Olympics in Tokyo, Japan. Modern Pentathlon At The 2024 Summer Olympics
The modern pentathlon at the 2024 Summer Olympics in Paris is scheduled to take place from 8 to 11 August 2024 at the Palace of Versailles and the Vélodrome National. The Palace of Versailles will host all the modern pentathlon events, excluding the fencing ranking rounds which will occur at the National Velodrome. Two events will be contested, one for men and another for women. In late 2021, the International Olympic Committee announced that modern pentathlon would be dropped from the Olympic program after 2024, following the controversy in the riding segment of the women's event in Tokyo 2020, which saw German coach Kim Raisner ejected from the Games for physically assaulting one of the horses. In response to this incident, the Union Internationale de Pentathlon Moderne (UIPM) was warned by the IOC to replace the riding segment with a new fifth discipline to reconsider the sport's inclusion in future editions.
