Lars Hall
Lars Göran Ivar Hall (30 April 1927 – 26 April 1991) was a Swedish modern pentathlete who competed at the 1952 and 1956 Summer Olympics. He won the individual event at both Games and finished second with the Swedish team in 1952. In 1952 he became the first civilian Olympic champion in modern pentathlete. Berndt Katter
Berndt Leopold Katter (15 October 1932 – 20 July 2014) was a Finnish former modern pentathlete and Olympic medalist. He thrived at the national level in water-polo (national gold), swimming and fencing. Civilian life Besides his sport career, Katter worked in SOK, the Turku Lamp, OPA Ltd, Humppila Glass and Sylvi Salonen Oy's service. Katter had three children: musician Thomas Katter, Niclas v. Bonsdorff, and Christofer v. Bonsdorff. He was married with textile-artist Riitta Suomi. They lived in Turku. Jack Tupper Daniels (born April 26, 1933) is an exercise physiologist, running coach and a coach of Olympic athletes. On March 21, 2013, he was named the head coach of the Wells College men's and women's cross country programs. He received his doctoral degree in exercise physiology at the University of Wisconsin–Madison. Named "The World's Best Coach" by Runner's World magazine, he led SUNY Cortland runners to eight NCAA Division III National Championships, 31 individual national titles, and more than 130 All-America awards. Daniels outlined his training philosophies in the 1998 book, ''Daniels' Running Formula''. He mentors and coaches some of America's top distance runners in the country. William Andre (August 23, 1931 – October 17, 2019), commonly known as "Bill", was an American fencer and modern pentathlete. Born in Montclair, New Jersey, he won an individual bronze medal at the 1953 world championships. Olavi Aleksanteri "Ole" Mannonen (7 March 1930 – 17 March 2019) was a Finnish modern pentathlete who competed at the 1952 and 1956 Summer Olympics. He won a bronze medal in the team event in 1952 and 1956 and an individual silver in 1956; he placed fifth individually in 1952. Igor Novikov (russian: И́горь Алекса́ндрович Но́виков, 19 October 1929 – 30 August 2007) was a Soviet modern pentathlete and Olympic Champion. He competed at the 1956 Summer Olympics in Melbourne, where he won a gold medal in the team competition (together with Aleksandr Tarasov and Ivan Deryugin. Modern Pentathlon
The modern pentathlon is an Olympic sport consisting of fencing (one-touch épée), freestyle swimming, equestrian show jumping, pistol shooting, and cross country running. The event is inspired by the traditional pentathlon held during the ancient Olympics. The modern pentathlon was first held in 1912, and its rules have changed several times over the years. The latest structure, as of the 2020 Olympics, consists of three separate events for fencing, swimming, and equestrian, which determine each athlete's starting time in the final event. The last event, called the laser-run, alternates four legs of laser pistol shooting followed by an 800 m run (for 3200 m in total).
