Modern (Poland)
Modern ( pl, Nowoczesna, styled as ".Nowoczesna") is a centrist political party in Poland. It is currently led by Adam Szłapka. It was formed in 2015 as "ModernPL" although due to controversy it had to change the name to ".Modern" later that year. Its first president Ryszard Petru served until 2017, when he was succeeded by Katarzyna Lubnauer. It first gained seats in the 2015 parliamentary election, and in 2018 it joined the Civic Coalition to participate together in the local elections. Szłapka was elected as president in 2019. Modern is a member of the Alliance of Liberals and Democrats for Europe, and it is orientated towards the principles of liberalism, and classical liberalism. Adam Szłapka
Adam Szłapka (born 6 December 1984, Kościan) is a Polish politician and political scientist, Member of the Polish Parliament and leader of the Modern (''Nowoczesna'') political party. Early life and education Szłapka was born on 6 December 1984 in Kościan, Greater Poland Voivodeship. He graduated from the Oskar Kolberg High School No. 1 in Kościan. He subsequently graduated in political science and Eastern studies from the Adam Mickiewicz University in Poznań. He is married to Galyna Chyzh. Political career He was an activist of Młode Centrum, a youth organization of the Freedom Union and Democratic Party. Between 2006-2012 he worked as the general secretary of these organizations. Between 2006-2010, he served as town councillor in Kościan representing the Self-Government Democratic Forum (''Samorządowe Forum Demokratyczne''). Polish Initiative
The Polish Initiative (Polish: Inicjatywa Polska, iPL) is a progressive political party in Poland. It was formed as an association in 2016, and it was registered as a political party in 2019. Its leader is Barbara Nowacka, and it is a part of the Civic Coalition. It supports principles of social-democracy, and advocates for secularism. It has been described as centre-left and left-wing. History The association Polish Initiative was created on February 20, 2016, by Barbara Nowacka, a former member of the Your Movement and the United Left electoral alliance for the 2015 parliamentary election. 2019 Polish Parliamentary Election
Parliamentary elections were held in Poland on 13 October 2019. All 460 members of the Sejm and 100 senators of the Senate were elected. The ruling Law and Justice (PiS) retained its majority in the Sejm, but lost its majority in the Senate to the opposition. With 43.6% of the popular vote, Law and Justice received the highest vote share by any party since Poland returned to democracy in 1989. The turnout was the highest for a parliamentary election since the first free elections after the fall of communism in 1989. For the first time after 1989, the ruling party controls one house, and the opposition the other. The European Coalition ( pl, Koalicja Europejska, KE) was a short-lived political alliance and electoral list in Poland. It was established in 2019 by a group of former prime ministers and former foreign ministers, including Jerzy Buzek, Ewa Kopacz, Grzegorz Schetyna and Radosław Sikorski. Civic Platform ( pl, Platforma Obywatelska, PO)The party is officially the Civic Platform of the Republic of Poland (''Platforma Obywatelska Rzeczypospolitej Polskiej''). is a political party in Poland.
