Model Engineering College
Model Engineering College or MEC is a government controlled self financing engineering college established by the IHRD, located in Thrikkakara in the South Indian state of Kerala. The college was established in 1989 and it is affiliated with the APJ Abdul Kalam Technological University. History The college was established in 1989 by the IHRD at the premises of Edapally High School. Professor Sukulal was the first principal of the institution. The college shifted to the current campus at Thrikkakara in 1994. The college is also the first institution in Kerala to be affiliated to the Cochin University of Science and Technology. At present, the college is associated to APJ Abdul Kalam Technological University. APJ Abdul Kalam Technological University, formerly known as Kerala Technological University (KTU), is a state owned public university headquartered in Thiruvananthapuram, the state capital of Kerala, India. It is both a teaching and affiliation university, with more than 150 affiliated colleges and over 160,000 students enrolled, having jurisdiction over the entire area of Kerala. Institute Of Human Resources Development
The Institute of Human Resources Development (IHRD) was established by the Government of Kerala (India) in 1987, with the institutional centre at Thiruvananthapuram. IHRD has grown within a short period into a network of more than 50 institutions. In addition to regular courses of study in academic establishments, IHRD also runs short and long-term employment oriented and continuing education programmes. The first name of IHRD was Institute of Human Resources Development for Electronics (IHRDE). Later it was renamed and now bears the name IHRD. The Illuminati Quiz
The Illuminati Quiz is an annual Indian quiz contest that began on 8 December 2008; the students of the Model Engineering College (MEC) organized this south India level quiz competition as a tribute and a memorial to Sandeep Menon (1984-2008). In 2004 "The Illuminatus", or Menon, as he was commonly called, started the community called "The Illuminati", whose aim is to promote and continue the quizzing tradition both within college and with the extended community. It has conducted over 120 intra- and inter- collegiate quizzes to date. In addition, three annual versions of The Illuminati Quiz have been conducted at a South India level.
