The Mocker (comics)
The Mocker is a fictional comic book character by artist Steve Ditko. Plot Tyler Rayne was an assistant District Attorney with an uncompromising sense of justice. An investigation into a corrupt Senator Durn (who happened to be his girlfriend Ella's father) turned sour after his first witness was killed and his other witness recanted out of fear, and he ended up framed for corruption and sent to prison. While in prison he was taken under the wing of noted mob boss Ziger, who upon Rayne's release offered him a deal: find out information to help his operation, and he would use his contacts to prove Rayne was innocent all along. Rayne slinks in and out of the seedy mob underworld using his mysterious powers; unknown to anyone else, he has the power to dim lights around him, and once in the shadows he is nearly invisible even when right in front of them, "mocking their eyes". The Mockers
The Mockers were a New Zealand pop band formed in Wellington in 1979 by Andrew Fagan. Fagan was the only ever-present of the band's line-up whose initial members were mostly drawn from Fagan's Rongotai College classmates. Their songs include "One Black Friday" and "Forever Tuesday Morning". The Mockers' style drew on punk and new wave influences from the UK and performances centered on Fagan's flamboyant stage presence. Other band members included Chas Mannell (drums) Gary Curtis (keyboards, vocals), Steve Thorpe (drums), Dale Monaghan (guitar), Dean Heazlewood, Brett Adams, Geoff Hayden, Tim Wedde, Murray Costello, Chas Mannell, Gordon Costello, Brendan Fitzgerald, Baz Caitcheon and Paul Lightfoot (guitar). Los Mockers
Los Mockers were a popular 1960s rock band in Latin America that was part of the Uruguayan Invasion. They were heavily influenced by Rolling Stones and covered many of their songs (in English). The band was formed in 1963 on Montevideo, Uruguay but moved to Argentina in 1966 after winning a contract with EMI Argentina. The original lineup disbanded in 1967. They briefly re-united in 2006. History The band formed in 1963. They were originally called The Notorious before being renamed The Mockers. In 1966, they won a recording contract with EMI of Argentina, so they recorded their first single in April, and in September, recorded "I want to go" and "Baby Mine", which were not included in the LP that would be published later. A month later they released their next single, entitled "Empty Harem" / "Let me try again." Their third single, "Captain Grey" / "Confusion" was released in mid- 1967, to boost sales of the album. Papilio Dardanus
''Papilio dardanus'', the African swallowtail, mocker swallowtail or flying handkerchief, is a species of butterfly in the family Papilionidae (the swallowtails). The species is broadly distributed throughout Sub-Saharan Africa. The British entomologist E. B. Poulton described it as "the most interesting butterfly in the world". Classification Molecular studies have provided evidence that this species' closest relative is '' Papilio phorcas'', with '' Papilio constantinus'' being the next closest (see images below). It is a member of the ''Papilio'' genus of which '' Papilio appalachiensis'' and ''Papilio xuthus'' are also members. ''Papilio dardanus'' is the nominal member of the ''dardanus'' species group. Josef Mocker
Josef Mocker (22 November 1835 in Cítoliby – 15 November 1899 in Prague) was a Bohemian architect and restorer who worked in a purist Gothic Revival style. Overview Mocker was responsible for restoring many Bohemian castles and ancient buildings in Prague. His work aroused much controversy, but also contributed many important landmarks of Prague. From 1879 to 1881, Mocker participated in a reconstruction of Karolinum, today's seat of the Charles University in Prague.
