Paulo Emilio Vanzolini (; April 25, 1924 – April 28, 2013) was a Brazilian scientist and music composer. He was best known for his samba compositions, including the famous ''"Ronda", "Volta por Cima"'', and ''"Boca da Noite"'', and for his scientific works in herpetology. He is considered one of the greatest samba composers from São Paulo. Until his death, he still conducted research at the University of São Paulo (USP). Neguinho da Beija-Flor, whose real name is Luiz Feliciano Antonio Marcondes, (born June 29, 1949 in Nova Iguaçu) is a samba singer and composer. He has been the official interpreter of the Beija Flor since 1976. He is the son of a musician. Owning both a powerful voice and great vocal technique, he debuted as lead-singer at the Samba Group Lion of Iguaçu in 1970, transferring to the musical group Beija-Flor (from Nilópolis/RJ), in 1975. A samba school ( pt, Escola de samba) is a dancing, marching, and drumming (Samba Enredo) club. They practice and often perform in a huge square-Compound (enclosure), compounds ("quadras de samba") and are devoted to practicing and exhibiting samba, an Afro-Brazilian dance and drumming style.
