Mochongoi
Mochongoi is a community and a division in Baringo County, Kenya. Mochongoi is also an electoral ward in Marigat subcounty. The town lies in the northern end of the Aberdare Range and is a relatively new settlement in what was the Ol Arabel forest reserve. The Ol Arabel Forest Reserve is part of the Marmanet forests on the eastern escarpment of the Rift Valley, north of Nyahururu. The forest reserve, which is part of the upper catchment of the Ol Arabel River, once covered , but were excised in 1993. No boundary plan was defined. As a result about 80% of the forest had been settled by the Mochongoi settlement scheme by 2008. The division covers . In 2001 the population was 11,927. The community includes a secondary school. Maize farmers have protested that middlemen were not paying adequate prices. Ol Arabel
Ol Arabel (or Olarabel) is a river in the Great Rift Valley of Kenya that feeds Lake Baringo. It gives its name to a forest covering its headwaters and to a region. River The Ngusero and Ol Arabel rivers drain the northern end of the Aberdare Range. The river forms a delta where it enters the southeast of Lake Baringo at , and this forms a dense marsh during periods when the lake level is relatively high. The river is seasonal and in the dry period of the early 2000s no longer reached the lake. Historical land use In the past the region was used by Il Chamus herders. In the 1930s growing numbers of Tugen agropastoralists moved into the area, with some official encouragement. In the 1940s squatters moved into the Ol Arabel Forest Reserve in Laikipia District and cultivated 84 acres of land, eventually being evicted in 1947. Baringo County
Baringo County is one of the 47 counties in Kenya. It is located in the former Rift Valley Province. Its headquarters and largest town is Kabarnet. The county is home to Lake Baringo. Aberdare Range
The Aberdare Range (formerly the Sattima Range, Kikuyu: ''Nyandarua'') is a 160 km (100 mile) long mountain range of upland, north of Kenya's capital Nairobi with an average elevation of . It straddles across the counties of Nyandarua, Nyeri, Muranga, Kiambu and Laikipia. The mountain range is located in west central Kenya, northeast of Naivasha and Gilgil and lies just south of the Equator. The mountain range is called Nyandarua among the Agikuyu people in whose territory this forest and mountain range is located. The name Nyandarua comes from the Kikuyu word rwandarua meaning a drying hide, due to the distinctive fold of its silhouette. Nyahururu
Nyahururu (formerly known as Thomson's Falls) is a town in Kenya, lying north east of Nakuru. The town derives its name from the Maasai people, Maasai word e-naiwurruwurr, meaning waterfall and/or windy or place of storms. It is located in Laikipia County. Despite this, Nyahururu formerly functioned as the administrative capital of Nyandarua County, before it became a county, until the headquarters was shifted to Ol Kalou. Mwai Kibaki
Emilio Stanley Mwai Kibaki (15 November 1931 – 21 April 2022) was a Kenyan politician who served as the third President of Kenya from December 2002 until April 2013 and is regarded as one of Kenya's founding fathers. He had previously served as the fourth Vice-President of Kenya for ten years from 1978 to 1988 under President Daniel arap Moi. Marigat
Marigat is a small town in Baringo County, Kenya. Marigat is a fast-growing town located in the lowlands of Baringo County. The town was named after the Ilchamus name of narrowing corners to the town Lmari lo lgat and the colonialists named if Marigat. Its growth is supported by the Perkerra irrigation scheme where onions, pepper, papaws and maize, among other crops, are grown. Marigat town is about 20 km from both the famous L. Baringo and L. Bogoria; this exposes the town to new ideology through interaction between visitors and the locals. Marketing of local products such as honey (enaisho), goat's meat (nkirri), and cultural artifacts is made effective by the surging local and foreign tourists and travellers.
