Mixed Company
''Mixed Company'' is a 1974 American comedy-drama film directed by Melville Shavelson and written by Shavelson and Mort Lachman. It stars Barbara Harris, Joseph Bologna, Tom Bosley, Lisa Gerritsen, Dorothy Shay, Ruth McDevitt and Haywood Nelson. Plot summary Kathy Morrison (Harris), mother of three, who helps run a "color-blind" adoption program, wants to have another biological child. Her husband, Pete (Bologna), the head coach of the Phoenix Suns, finds out he can't produce another child. Kathy thinks about adopting a boy, Frederic "Freddie" Wilcox, and Pete does not want to adopt a boy who happens to be black. When he relents, Freddie's arrival causes an upheaval in the Morrison's neighborhood, their school, and family. Kathy's answer is to adopt another child, in this case two, a war-traumatized half-Vietnamese girl, Quan Tran, and a Hopi boy, Joe Rogers. The new extended family must now learn to live together. Melville Shavelson
Melville Shavelson (April 1, 1917 – August 8, 2007) was an Americans, American film director, producer, screenwriter, and author. He was President of the Writers Guild of America, West (WGAw) from 1969 to 1971, 1979 to 1981, and 1985 to 1987. Biography Shavelson was born to a American Jews, Jewish family in Brooklyn and graduated from Cornell University in 1937. worked as a writer on comedian Bob Hope's radio show, ''The Pepsodent Show Starring Bob Hope''. Shavelson came to Hollywood, Los Angeles, Hollywood in 1938 as one of Hope's joke writers, a job he held for the next five years. He was responsible for the screenplays of such Hope films as ''The Princess and the Pirate'' (1944), ''Where There's Life'' (1947), ''The Great Lover (1949 film), The Great Lover'' (1949), and ''Sorrowful Jones'' (1949), which also starred Lucille Ball. Al McCoy (born April 26, 1933), also known as The Voice of the Suns, is an American sportscaster and play-by-play announcer for the Phoenix Suns of the National Basketball Association since 1972. The ongoing 2022-2023 NBA season is his 51st season with the team. He is the longest-tenured broadcaster in NBA history. Along with Chick Hearn, Hot Rod Hundley and Kevin Calabro, he is among the last of NBA broadcasters to have been simulcast on both television and radio, before league-officials ended the practice in the mid-00's and McCoy's broadcasts became exclusive to radio and online streaming via the Suns Radio Network.
