Mitch Atkins
Mitchell Shane Atkins (born October 1, 1985) is an American professional baseball pitcher for the High Point Rockers of the Atlantic League of Professional Baseball. He has previously played in Major League Baseball (MLB) for the Chicago Cubs and Baltimore Orioles, and in the Chinese Professional Baseball League (CPBL) for the Lamigo Monkeys. Atkins played high school baseball at Northeast Guilford High School in McLeansville, North Carolina. He originally committed to Elon University, but was drafted by the Cubs as the 216th overall pick in the seventh round of the 2004 MLB Draft. In baseball, the pitcher is the player who throws ("pitches") the baseball from the pitcher's mound toward the catcher to begin each play, with the goal of retiring a batter, who attempts to either make contact with the pitched ball or draw a walk.
