The Missouri and North Arkansas was a railroad in Missouri and Arkansas from 1906 to 1946. History The railroad began as the Eureka Springs Railway in 1883 as a line from the St. Louis–San Francisco Railway in Seligman, MO, reaching the resort town of Eureka Springs, AR in 1883. The railroad was extended east, reaching Harrison, AR in 1901, including a branch from Freeman to Berryville, AR. Leslie, AR was reached in 1903, Kensett, AR in 1908, and on to Helena, AR in 1909. In addition, the railroad was extended northwest from Wayne, MO to Neosho, MO in 1908. This section was reached using trackage rights from the St. Louis-San Francisco Railway between Seligman and Wayne, Missouri. Joplin, MO was reached using trackage rights via the Kansas City Southern Railway (KCS) from Neosho, Missouri. Harrison, AR
Harrison is a city and the county seat of Boone County, Arkansas, United States. It is named after General Marcus LaRue Harrison, a surveyor who laid out the city along Crooked Creek at Stifler Springs. According to 2019 Census Bureau estimates, the population of the city was 13,069, up from 12,943 at the 2010 census and it is the 30th largest city in Arkansas based on official 2019 estimates from the U.S. Census Bureau. Harrison is the principal city of the Harrison Micropolitan Statistical Area, which includes all of Boone and Newton counties. Bellefonte Station
The Missouri and North Arkansas Depot is a historic railroad station at Center Street and Cash Streets in Bellefonte, Arkansas. It is a small single-story structure with a wide low-pitch gable-on-hip roof and a rubble-stone exterior over a wood frame. A small shed-roof addition enlarges the building slightly to the north, while a larger cross-gable addition projects from the rear. It was built in 1901 by the Missouri and North Arkansas Railroad to serve the area's passenger traffic. It is a rare example of rubble-over-frame construction for railroad stations in the region. The building was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1992.
