The Missouri Southern Competition was a biannual international piano competition organized by the Missouri Southern State University first held in 1987. It was dissolved in 2008 following the retirement of its director, Vivian León. Missouri Southern State University
Missouri Southern State University (Missouri Southern, MSSU, or MoSo) is a public university in Joplin, Missouri. It was established in 1937 as Joplin Junior College. The university enrolled 4,346 students in Fall 2021. History Missouri Southern State University was founded in 1937 as Joplin Junior College. At its conception, Joplin Junior College had 114 students and only 9 faculty members. In 1964, residents of Jasper County, Missouri approved a $2.5 million bond issue to begin construction on a new campus, where the university is currently located. The new campus opened in the fall of 1967 with 2,399 students and 95 faculty members. In 1977, the school was renamed Missouri Southern State College and officially became a state-assisted four-year college and part of the state of Missouri's higher education system. Anton Mordasov is a Russian pianist, born in Novosibirsk in 1972. A student at the Novosibirsk Music College under renowned Professor, Academician, Honored Artist of Russia Mary Lebenzon, in 1990 he won the Rachmaninov Competition and shared the IX Tchaikovsky Competition's 3rd prize with Kevin Kenner and Johan Schmidt. Jonathan Ware
Jonathan Ware (born 1984) is an American pianist, Lied accompanist and academic teacher. Life Born in Texas, Ware studied at the Eastman School of Music in Rochester, at the Juilliard School in New York City and at the Hochschule für Musik "Hanns Eisler". As a Lied accompanist, he has performed in major venues in Europe and the US, including with Benjamin Appl, Christiane Oelze, Golda Schultz, Elsa Dreisig and Ludwig Mittelhammer. Avan Yu (born 19 July 1987) is a Hong Kong-born Canadian concert pianist. He is the winner of the 12th Sydney International Piano Competition of Australia as well as the silver medalist of the XVI Paloma O'Shea Santander International Piano Competition. He has performed extensively throughout Europe, North America, Asia and Australia and at venues such as the Weill Recital Hall in Carnegie Hall, Concertgebouw in Amsterdam, the Berliner Philharmonie, the Salle Cortot in Paris, and the Sydney Opera House. Di Wu () is a Chinese-American pianist. Early life and education Born into a musical family in Nanjing, Jiangsu, Di Wu entered Beijing's Central Conservatory of Music at age 12. She made her professional debut at age 14 with the Beijing Philharmonic, and thereafter toured widely to positive reviews. In 1999, Wu came to the United States to continue her music studies, first with Zenon Fishbein at the Manhattan School of Music, then with Gary Graffman at the Curtis Institute of Music in Philadelphia from 2000 to 2005. Enrique Graf (born 1953) is a Uruguayan-American pianist. Biography Born in Montevideo, Uruguay, Graf began studying piano at the age of four with his mother. He then studied at the Falleri-Balzo Conservatory. After winning all of the national competitions in Uruguay, he was awarded a full scholarship from the Peabody Conservatory of the Johns Hopkins University and the Organization of American States to study with Leon Fleisher in 1973.
