Route 187 is a short segment of highway running less than five miles (8 km) in Howard County, Missouri. Its eastern terminus is at Route 87 south of Glasgow; its western terminus is at Boone's Lick State Historic Site. No towns are on the route. Route description Route 187 begins at Boone's Lick State Historic Site in Howard County, where the road continues west as CR-328. The route heads northeast on a two-lane undivided road, passing through areas of fields and woods. Route 187 curves east and comes to its eastern terminus at Route 87 north of Boonesboro. Boone's Lick State Historic Site
Boone's Lick State Historic Site is located in Missouri, United States, four miles east of Arrow Rock. The park was established in 1960 around one of the saltwater springs that was used in the early 19th century. It was named after Nathan and Daniel Morgan Boone, sons of Daniel Boone, who produced salt from the springs. The springs lent their name to the Boone's Lick Country, the first major American settlement in Missouri, and the Boone's Lick Road, which traversed wilderness from St. Charles, Missouri to the boomtown of Franklin, Missouri, in the early 1800s. Howard County, Missouri
Howard County is located in the U.S. state of Missouri, with its southern border formed by the Missouri River. As of the 2020 census, the population was 10,151. Its county seat is Fayette. The county was organized January 23, 1816, and named for Benjamin Howard, the first Governor of the Missouri Territory. Settled originally by migrants from the Upper South, it is part of the region historically known as Little Dixie. It is part of the Columbia, Missouri, metropolitan area. History Located on the north bank of the Missouri River, Howard County was settled primarily from the Upper Southern states of Kentucky, Tennessee and Virginia. Route 87 is a highway in central Missouri. Its southern terminus is at U.S. Route 54 in Eldon, and its northern terminus is at Route 5/ 240 in Glasgow. Parts of the road are overlapped by the Lewis and Clark Trail and Santa Fe Trail. Route description Route 87 begins at an interchange along U.S. Route 54 (US 54) which is also shared by Route M. The route runs northwest and then curve west just before an abandoned Rock Island railroad crossing. The route continues west until it encounters the intersection with US 54 Business (US 54 Bus.), where it makes a right turn an runs northeast in a concurrency. At the intersection with Manor Drive, Route 87 leaves the concurrency with US 54 Bus. and travels straight north, along the east side of Eldon Model Airpark. Glasgow, Missouri
Glasgow is a city on the Missouri River mostly in northwest Howard County and extending into the southeast corner of Chariton County in the U.S. state of Missouri. The population was 1,087 at the 2020 census. The Howard County portion of Glasgow is part of the Columbia, Missouri Metropolitan Statistical Area. History Glasgow was laid out and platted in 1836, partially from land acquired from former Missouri State Treasurer James Earickson The city was named for James Glasgow, a local merchant. A post office called Glasgow has been in operation since 1837. The Battle of Glasgow was fought on October 15, 1864, in and near Glasgow as part of Price's Missouri Expedition during the American Civil War. Although the battle resulted in a Confederate victory and the capture of significant war material, it had little long-term benefit as Price was ultimately defeated at Westport a week later, bringing his campaign in Missouri to an end.
