Missouri Route 138
Missouri Route 138 is a short highway (about one mile) in southern Buchanan County, Missouri, United States. Its eastern terminus is at Route 45/ Route 273 north of Iatan. Its western terminus is in Lewis and Clark State Park. There are no towns on the highway. Route description Route 138 begins on the south shore of Lewis and Clark Lake in the community of Lewis and Clark Village within Lewis and Clark State Park, where the road continues east as Lake Shore Drive. From the beginning point, the route heads southwest on two-lane undivided Lake Shore Drive, passing fields and woods in the state park. The road turns to the east and becomes Lakecrest Boulevard, intersecting Lake Shore Drive again. Route 138 comes to its eastern terminus at an intersection with Route 45/ Route 273. Iatan, Missouri
Iatan is a village in Platte County, Missouri within the United States. The population was 69 at the 2010 census. It is within the Kansas City metropolitan area. The community is said to derive its name from Iatan, a chief of the Otoe tribe who supposedly derived his name from battles with the Comanche who were sometimes also referred to as Iatan. The town site was platted in 1842. A post office called Iatan was established in 1855, and remained in operation until 1964. Iatan, first settled by John Dougherty in 1837, was one of the first communities to be established after the Platte Purchase allowed white settlement on former Native American land (which was proclaimed in February 1837). It was initially an important trading port on the Missouri River but was soon overtaken by Weston, Missouri five miles (8 km) to the south and St. Joseph, Missouri to the north. Lewis And Clark State Park (Missouri)
Lewis and Clark State Park is a public recreation area occupying on the south shore of Lewis and Clark Lake (a.k.a. Sugar Lake) in Buchanan County, Missouri. The state park features camping, picnicking, and fishing. History The tract was acquired in 1934 as the gift of a group of Buchanan County sportsmen and was originally named Sugar Lake State Park. The name was changed in 1938 to honor Lewis and Clark, who are believed to have discovered the lake, naming it Gosling Lake, on their expedition in 1804-1806. The Sugar Lake State Park Open Shelter was built in 1934 by a Civilian Conservation Corps company who encamped briefly at the park. It is a stone picnic shelter on a poured concrete foundation. Buchanan County is located in the U.S. state of Missouri. As of the 2020 United States Census, the population was 84,793. Its county seat is St. Joseph. When originally formed in 1838, the county was named Roberts County, after settler Hiram Roberts. It was renamed in 1839 for James Buchanan, then a U.S. Senator and later President of the United States. The county was formed from land annexed to Missouri, as were five other counties. Route 45 is a highway in northwest Missouri, US in Buchanan County and Platte County which is largely in the bottom land alongside the Missouri River. Route description Its northern terminus is U.S. Route 59 just east of Atchison, Kansas where 59 turns sharply to St. Joseph, Missouri north while 45 heads south towards Kansas City, Missouri. It overlaps Route 273 until just south of Weston, Missouri where 273 breaks off to head east. At Beverly, Missouri, in what is referred to locally as the "Beverly Curve", it intersects Route 92 going east to Platte City, Missouri and west to Leavenworth, Kansas. About three miles (5 km) later at East Leavenworth, Missouri, Route 45 intersects its spur which goes northwest to Leavenworth.
