Mississippi Highway 48 (MS 48) is a state highway in southern Mississippi. It runs from east to west for , serving a total of four counties: Marion, Walthall, Pike, and Amite. Route description MS 48 begins in Amite County in the town of Centreville at an intersection with MS 24/ MS 33 at the eastern edge of town, with the road continuing westward as E Howard Street into downtown. It immediately leaves the town and heads east through woodlands, with some farms here and there, for several miles to pass through the community of Ariel and become concurrent (overlapped) with MS 569 before crossing the West Fork of the Amite River and entering the town of Liberty. A concurrency in a road network is an instance of one physical roadway bearing two or more different route numbers. When two roadways share the same right-of-way, it is sometimes called a common section or commons. Liberty, Mississippi
Liberty is a town in Amite County, Mississippi. It is part of the McComb, Mississippi McComb micropolitan area, Micropolitan Statistical Area. It has a population of 728 according to the 2010 census. It is the county seat of Amite County. The town can be accessed via Interstate 55 in Mississippi, I-55, then west on Mississippi Highway 24. McGehee Air Park is located about a mile west of town. Liberty celebrates its Heritage Days Festival during the first weekend of each May. Air Cruisers manufacturing plant is located in Liberty. Owned by Zodiac Aerospace, the plant produces evacuation slides, life rafts, and life vests for the aviation industry. It runs from south to north for across the western and south-central parts of the state, serving 5 counties: Walthall, Lawrence, Copiah, Hinds, and Warren. Mississippi Highway 198
Mississippi Highway 198 (MS 198) is a state highway in the U.S. state of Mississippi. The highway is the designation for six former segments of U.S. Highway 98 (US 98) that have been bypassed by newer alignments. These six segments are located in Tylertown, Columbia, Hattiesburg, Beaumont, McLain, and Lucedale. Five of the six sections of MS 198 are two-lane undivided roads that pass through small towns; the exception is the Hattiesburg section which is a four-lane divided highway running through developed areas of the city. Tylertown, Mississippi
Tylertown is a town in Walthall County, Mississippi, United States. It is the county seat of Walthall County. The population was 1,609 at the 2010 census. History The town of Tylertown was first known as the Magee Settlement. It was settled by emigrants of the Magee and Thornhill families, who came from South Carolina. J. Thornhill acquired the first tract of land for the settlement on September 20, 1816, after Native Americans were pushed out of the area. Cullen Conerly went there in 1850 and bought out the Garland Hart store and established a post office which was called Conerly's post office. The store and post office served as the social center of the community for over a half century. The town bore the name Conerly's from 1848 to 1879. It was renamed as Tyler Town in honor of William G. Percy Quin State Park is a public recreation area located off Interstate 55, approximately southwest of McComb, Mississippi. Lake Tangipahoa
Lake Tangipahoa Dam is an embankment dam on the Tangipahoa River in Pike County, Mississippi. It was rebuilt in 1945 at a cost of $75,000. During the spring flood of 1983, the dam again failed and contributed to the flood records for the Tangipahoa River that stand today. The dam was rebuilt afterward and a concrete flood control structure was added. Heavy rainfall from Hurricane Isaac in August 2012 prompted the evacuation of 60,000 people downstream of the dam due to high reservoir levels and concerns of its stability.
