Mississippi Highway 346 (MS 346), also known as Hurricane Road, is a west–east state highway in Pontotoc County, Mississippi, connecting the community of Esperanza with MS 15 and the town of Ecru. It is generally a narrow two-lane route. Route description MS 346 begins at the beginning of state maintenance just before Sand Springs Church, with the road continuing west as Hurricane Road to MS 336. It heads east past the church, and through farmland, to pass through the community of Esperanza, where it has an intersection with MS 355. The highway continues east to cross Cane Creek before paralleling the southern banks of the Little Tallahatchie River as it travels through farmland for the next several miles. MS 346 enters the town of Ecru Ecru is still defined by some dictionaries as the colour of unbleached linen, which it still is in French (hex code = #FEFEE0 ), but it is now used for a quite different, much darker color in English. Esperanza, Mississippi
Hurricane is an unincorporated community in Pontotoc County, Mississippi, United States. It was originally called Esperanza, but the name changed due to being impacted by several severe storms. History The Esperanza Post Office was established in 1871 and continued into the early 1900s. The population in 1900 was 26. But sometime before 1900, the inhabitants began calling the community "Hurricane" after it was hit by a hurricane season storm from the Gulf of Mexico. The New Prospect Baptist Church, originally housed in a 1880s wood building, was renamed Hurricane Baptist in 1940 when a two-story brick building replaced the prior structure. Ecru, Mississippi
Ecru is a town in Pontotoc County, Mississippi. The population was 895 at the 2010 census. Ecru is home to the largest upholstered furniture plant in the world which manufactures Ashley Furniture. History Ecru was established by Colonel William Clark Falkner, a prominent post-Civil War businessman. Pontotoc County is a county located in the U.S. state of Mississippi. It has been identified as one of the most corrupt counties in Northern Mississippi. As of the 2010 census, the population was 29,957. Its county seat is Pontotoc. It was created on February 9, 1836, from lands ceded to the United States under the Chickasaw Cession. Mississippi Highway 355 (MS 355) is a north–south state highway in Pontotoc and Union counties. It connects the town of Thaxton with the town of New Albany. The entire length of MS 355 is a rural, two-lane, state highway. Route description MS 355 begins at an intersection with MS 346 in the community of Esperanza, north of Thaxton in Pontotoc County. The highway at this point is unsigned; it is not maintained by the state, rather by Pontotoc County as unsigned County Road 858 (CR 858).
