List Of State Highways In Mississippi
State highways in Mississippi are maintained by the Mississippi Department of Transportation. The state numbers its highways in a grid-like pattern, much like the U.S. Route numbering scheme. One and two-digit routes are primary highways. Odd-numbered routes run north–south and start from MS 1, which runs along the Mississippi River, to MS 25, which runs near the Alabama border. In addition to routes 1 through 25, routes 27 through 41 repeat this pattern over the first several routes, still increasing in number from west to east, and routes 43 and higher generally run in the southern part of the state. Even-numbered routes run east–west; these start from MS 2, which runs near the Tennessee state line, and continue to MS 26, which runs in the southern part of the state. Diamond Interchange
A diamond interchange is a common type of road junction, used where a controlled-access highway crosses a minor road. Design The freeway itself is grade-separated from the minor road, one crossing the other over a bridge. Approaching the interchange from either direction, an off-ramp diverges only slightly from the freeway and runs directly across the minor road, becoming an on-ramp that returns to the freeway in similar fashion. The two places where the ramps meet the road are treated as conventional intersections. Mississippi Highway 328 (MS 328) is an east-west state highway located entirely in the Yocona River valley of the North Central Hills in northern Mississippi, connecting MS 315 to Markette at MS 7. The entire highway is located in Lafayette County. The state highway serves the town of Taylor (via MS 733, a.k.a. Main Street). Route description MS 328 begins a few miles northwest of Water Valley at an intersection with MS 315 at the eastern end of Enid Lake. Yocona River
Yocona River is a stream in the U.S. state of Mississippi. It is a tributary of the Tallahatchie River. The fish species '' Etheostoma faulkneri'' (Yoknapatawpha darter) is endemic to headwater streams of the Yocona River watershed, being found nowhere else in the world. In Yalobusha County, the river is impounded by an earthen dam, near the community of Enid, creating Enid Lake, with that lake's waters stretching as far as the town of Water Valley. Name ''Yocona'' is a name derived from the Chickasaw language meaning "land". The Board on Geographic Names settled on "Yocona River" as the river's official name and spelling in 1912.
