Mission Dolores, San Francisco
Mission Dolores is the oldest neighborhood in San Francisco and therefore its birthplace. List Of Neighborhoods In San Francisco
San Francisco, in the US state of California, has both major, well-known neighborhoods and districts as well as smaller, specific subsections and developments. While there is considerable fluidity among the sources, one guidebook identifies five major districts, corresponding to the four quadrants plus a south central district. These five broad districts, counterclockwise are: Central/downtown, Richmond, Sunset, Upper Market and beyond (south central) and Bernal Heights/Bayview and beyond (southeast). Within each of these five districts are located major neighborhoods, and again there is considerable fluidity seen in the sources. The San Francisco Planning Department officially identifies 36 neighborhoods. Within these 36 official neighborhoods are a large number of minor districts, some of which are historical, and some of which are overlapping. The San Francisco Board of Supervisors is the legislative body within the government of the City and County of San Francisco. Government and politics The City and County of San Francisco is a consolidated city-county, being simultaneously a charter city and charter county with a consolidated government, a status it has had since 1856. Since it is the only such consolidation in California, it is therefore the only California city with a mayor who is also the county executive, and a county board of supervisors that also acts as the city council. Whereas the overall annual budget of the city and county is about $9 billion as of 2016, various legal restrictions and voter-imposed set-asides mean that Board of Supervisors can allocate only about $20 million directly without constraints, according to its president's chief of staff. Jeff Sheehy
Jeff Sheehy is a former member of the San Francisco Board of Supervisors representing Supervisorial District 8. He was appointed to the Board in January 2017 by then-mayor Ed Lee to succeed Supervisor Scott Wiener, who resigned his seat to take office as a member of the California State Senate. Prior to his appointment, Sheehy served as a communications director for UCSF AIDS Research Institute. Background Sheehy grew up in Waco, Texas, where his grandfather John and father James were both former mayors of the city. Career Sheehy graduated from the University of Texas at Austin in 1985. He was a member of San Francisco ACT-UP, and worked on such issues as organ transplants for people with HIV and legislation to facilitate safe conception for HIV-positive men through advanced assisted reproduction techniques with their HIV-negative partners. California's 12th congressional district is a congressional district in northern California. Speaker of the United States House of Representatives Nancy Pelosi, a Democrat, has represented the district since January 2013. She has represented various congressional districts within the city of San Francisco since 1987. The district was also once represented by Richard Nixon, at a time when the district encompassed Pasadena, Pomona, and Whittier. Currently, the 12th district is located in Alameda County and includes the cities of Oakland, Berkeley, Emeryville, Alameda, Albany, Piedmont, San Leandro and most of San Lorenzo. Mission San Francisco De Asís
Mission San Francisco de Asís ( es, Misión San Francisco de Asís), commonly known as Mission Dolores (as it was founded near the Dolores creek), is a Spanish Californian mission and the oldest surviving structure in San Francisco. Located in the Mission District, it was founded on October 9, 1776, by Padre Francisco Palóu (a companion of Junípero Serra) and co-founder Fray Pedro Benito Cambón, who had been charged with bringing Spanish settlers to Alta California and with evangelizing the local indigenous Californians, the Ohlone. The present mission building was the second structure for the site and was dedicated in 1791. Next to the old mission is the Mission Dolores Basilica, built in 1918 in an elaborate California Churrigueresque style. This larger church replaced a brick parish of 1876, which had been destroyed in the San Francisco earthquake of 1906. The Mission District (Spanish: ''Distrito de la Misión''), commonly known as The Mission (Spanish: ''La Misión''), is a neighborhood in San Francisco, California. One of the oldest neighborhoods in San Francisco, the Mission District's name is derived from Mission San Francisco de Asís, built in 1776 by the Spanish.
